Any ways, here is my Early LUNA (1972), commonly known as " Duck LUNA" , Crane LUNA, Camel Luna, etc..
...........WAS this FIRST Indigenous Moped or not is secondary for me
Have seen a Vespa CIAO moped in flesh a couple of years ago( again can't reveal the details, b'coz the owner of that CIAO has promised me to part with his VESPA Sprint(1964) in future.which I desperately need of..)
Pics was not clicked as per the middle man's advice...hence want to share a CIAO pics from internet .....on my perception CAIO resembled our Crane LUNA or the other way round , even I may be wrong, as the CIAO Moped which I saw was dismantled for a repaint..
Does any of our guys have an in sight on this First Indigenous Moped & stuff???

Sir,

It seems that we now know the inspiration behind our Kinetic Luna. They look almost identical..
Waiting for the Luna specs..

As on date we (I) don't have records to confirm that CAMEL Luna was a almost a BADGE Engineered product of "Vespa CIAO" ( As it has been recorded as First Indigenous MOPED)

The very next Moped after "Camel 'aka' Crane LUNA was LUNA II .
at 1975 and not the TFR Luna as most of us think (thought??)

Yes ,It was same as C.Luna >>>> with 19" wheels, rear rigid suspension, same knurling drive reduction gear box and with same power & torque characteristics, only difference was the front Suspension---->>" Telescopic instead of the the Leading link one"
Have anybody have an idea about this????
Please do post the details !!!
OR
I will post the pics of that LUNA II, which I have acquired one just few days before

Re: Indian Two Wheelers that flopped

The posted machines by me in this thread( Flopped) till now are not flopped machines by any standards !!
but this one posted here ( which I picked couple of days before) may deserve a place here for a reason or two>>
Expecting Moped enthus to identify this>

A Mix-N-match power train ( from its rivals of that period)

ps: @ mods , plz don't move this to " Identification thread" , as this is pure Desi machine, as we discuss about Flopped Indian machines here in this thread!!

a correction---it is LUNA T.S, not mark11

Well , just stumbled across few parts of the above LUNA..found a head Light Rim with reflector ( a NOS) at Southern Tamil Nadu City

and could see the cartoon box printed LUNA T.S, the shop keeper ,who had a sound knowledge about "Kinetic" machines & parts...told that this particular model is " LUNA T.S"
It was the immediate successor to C.Luna & predecessor to TFR Luna and he had immense knowledge about Kinetic machines from Crane Luna to the last Kinetic K4 100 & Kinetic king ( both 100cc geared step through s)
and also shared his association with the " K2K Challenge" participants, when they visited the city on their way to Kanyakumari from Kargil, sadly that particular machine ( a Kinetic product) which came out with flying colors , has found a place in this " Flopped bikes" thread.
Slightly went OT..well finally her by found that the LUNA posted in my previous post is LUNA TS and not LUNA Mk11 as guessed before

Re: Indian Two Wheelers that flopped

Fiero F2 was the first product to fail after the Separation I guess.

Indian Two Wheelers that flopped-335.jpg

Incidentally I was the first to own this in my native. The reception was always good when ever I drive in the town. People asks how much it costs, Mileage evlo. I was humble enough to answer all with a great pride.

Days rolled over, no body purchased and I was a solo rider. Then over a period it gor disappeared from TVS port folio.
Still I drive it, but it has never failed any where and I have no sighs of major failures or break downs. Still I have no idea what made this to fail to this level.

and its cousing Fiero FX

Even I'm not too sure as to why the Fiero F2 failed or rather did relatively badly in the market. Maybe people were wary about buying a TVS product after the TVS-Suzuki separation. As far as the bike segment goes i think TVS really got back into the game after the launch of the Apache.
