Comet as a flopped bike is arguable.
But one thing is sure.
The RD350, Comet 250, Bajaj Endura were all launched at the wrong time.
If they were to be launched today, it would be an entirely different scene.
But then again, 2 strokers were forced to shut shop since Y2K in India.
There I contradicted myself.

The Bajaj Eliminator was sold in very limited numbers and back in 2003, Bajaj decided to pull it off. Thats when some brainy fellow at Bajaj decided to shov the pulsar engine and relaunch with a revised tag.

A few more flops,
Hero Honda,
HH Sleek
HH Achiever
HH Street
HH Joy
HH Hunk (slowly fading away)
HH Ambition 135
HH Glamour FI (hardly sells)

Hero Motors,
Hero Winner
Hero Puch Shakti
Hero Puch Turbo
Hero puch Automatic
Hero Majestic
Hero Panther
Hero Smart
Hero Puch 3G
Hero Puch HD

Royal Enfield,
RE Lightening 535
RE Mini Bullet 175
RE Zundapp Fury 175
RE Zundapp Explorer
RE Zundapp Silverplus
RE Fantabulous

Ideal Jawa,
Yezdi Monarch 250
Yezdi Colt
Yezdi 175
Yezdi Oilking

The Kinetic Comet 250 was sold in limited numbers however, it recieved luke water responses. The bikes were just about pushed out of the showrooms. The Aquilia sold in a worse state than the Comet.

I am riding a comet these days
and no ways you can call it flop, all the limited stock was sold out and it still commands a premium in the Used market, and is a decent performer on road.

+1 to that. It would sell even today if it is re-produced.

I think you can still get one in selected cities ! I heard that you can talk to Kinetic straight if you want one. I am not sure of the source.

I find most of the posts in this thread pointless.
A car/bike or whatever can be classified as a "flop/failure/dud"

If
  • It fails to sell as expected (Manufacturers perspective.)
  • Failed to live up to the expectations of the buyer (say 70% users says its bad.)
  • Was a bad product (quality/pricing/reliability/after sales support)
Other than that writing pages on end listing all the names of bikes/mopeds and whatever is utterly pointless.

Mopeds are dud's, right ?
Go to rural Tamilnadu, I've seen axles of tractors being carried on these things.

It serves the purpose (and more) of the targeted user.
Wanna call it dud again ?

Calling classics like RD350 as "flopped".
I don't want to say more and get banned for life from this forum.

I hope someone get the right sense and close this thread.

Thanks.

PS: This is purely my personal view and I'm off this pointless thread for good.

I'm surprised to see Yamaha Rajdoot (Yamdoot) RD350's name in this list! This is one of the finest bike ever produced in Indian soil. Even today this mean machine is one of the sought after bike among enthusiasts. Just it came out ahaed of it's time and not done excellent in terms of sales that doesn't mean RD350 was a failure.
