Surprise, I remember, we had had a very passionate discussion over Helmets and helmet compulsion in Maharashtra. Very interesting thread! Make sure you check it out. For me, it's always helmet while driving. I have couple of friends, who used to laugh at me for wearing it, but they started religiously using it, the day they lost their colleague in a road accident. My blood really boils when I hear all stupid reasons given for not wearing helmet or for not making it compulsary.

Havent used a bike/scooter for some time now, but I wore it all the time when I used to.

I remember forcing a friend to buy one when he got a new bike for this birthday. He didnt think it was required. Dont know how religiously he used it though.

Did you notice that only people who hear helmets are responding to the poll?

Going by the number of people who laughed whenever I used to put on the helmet even when I was just going to the market in the next block, people who do NOT wear helmets when riding bikes/scooters have to be many times more in number than those who do.

Am a helmet user.
Beneficial while riding through dusty roads... Well the bellary road is being broadened and a helmet and a thick jacket helps reduce the dust ...

I wish there were helmets with wipers ) for riding in rains...
visibility is affected during rains if you are using a helmet and happen to wear specs... and yes even at nights with all the glare from incoming traffic....

Had this crazy phase when I never wore a helmet because I wanted to "feel the wind in my hair".
Then, thankfully, better sense prevailed and I'd NEVER ride without the helmet. Just not worth the risk.

So, to all the people who'll give excuses like excessive sweat, messes with hair style, want to live dangerously, "who's going to lug it around, huh?", et al...trust me, I was one of you. I KNOW what you are talking about. BUT I also know that when you are in a skirmish at even 30kmph, the one factor that decides your survival will be the spherical lifesaver.
Plus, when u are lying in the hospital (god forbid) with a serious head injury, won't u feel so damn stupid, stupid?

Hey, how come we have no votes for "I do not wear helmet" option? This just can't be true. Cheating cheating!

I went to porur, a place which 15 kms away from my office, and came back. It's peak traffic hours. Could figure out 9 out of 10 were without helmet. BELIEVE ME.

My heart saddened on seeing this. What to do, we cannot do nothing on this.

The Kerala Govt. tend's to make helmets compulsory as and when it suit's them.Whenever they do insist on this,half-heartedly no doubt, people always make a hue & cry about it.And as you all know, the public here sure know how to make their displeasure felt. The cops make a kiiling,so do wayside 'ISI' helmet sellers until the govt. forgets about it......till a few years down the line they insist on helmets again...and well, you get the picture!Sadly no one really seems concerned.Even cops can be seen riding around in berets and caps, their helmets safely strapped to the pillion grip.Sad.
