I have seen many RX135s with disks up front as well. I think they were optional, as in, a dealer option.

RXZ didn't come with a disk brake option. The RXZ 135 5 Speed came with dik as OE. The regular RX135/5Speed didn't have disk brake option at the factory.

AFAIK the RX125 is a myth.

There was a 4 stroke Yamaha YBX 125, but I can't remember any RX125. Rohan

The 4 speed RXZ was offered in black, maroon and white and didnt have a disk brake, even as an option. The 5 speed was offered in blue and a light red shade (which was very very rare) and a disk brake was standard

.

I got my 1995 RX100 registration renewed in Jan this year. This in Pune so at least Maharashtra RTO allows it. Not sure about other states.

Are we listing differences? Choke on the 100 is near (on?) the carb, while it is part of the Headlight/Indicator switch assembly on the 135.

thanks everyone, great responses! I have the opportunity to acquire an RXG that a friend owns but doesn't use. Its in bombay though so not available to me to test ride since I am in delhi. However, it seems from all these comments that the RX100 remains the pick of the lot if you value the pep and zing that was the bike's defining trait.

that 35% extra engine capacity let to less than a 10% increase in power indicated all was not right with the 135 engine. I figured it would have more bottom end grunt but not the spectacular top end rush of the 135.

So I guess I should look for an RX100?

Suzuki Shogun had true top speed of 108 kmph.
5 speed RX135 may have marginally higher top speed than Shogun, thanks to 5th gear, though it is just no match to Shogun's roaring exhaust note. Shogun "THE BOSS" was just brilliant.

I had the Shogun, you can check my garage for pics,it was one awsome ride,i had restored it cosmetically\engine wise to brand new condition.
I still curse myself for selling it.:Frustrati
As of now i have a RX135 5 speed,its not in a good condition.
its modded and a different beast altogether, its ported and runs a chamber tuned for high end.
@Sankar,are you sure?last batch of RXZ's had brembo disc brakes,not the RX135.
@Harbir,i would recommend that you pick a RX135 5 Speed\RXZ.

You mean the very first RXZ (not the 5 speed) had disk brakes? I never remember those coming with a disk brake option.
The relaunched RXZ 5 speed had Sunstar (not sunpro like i mentioned earlier) disk brake from the factory.

RXG performance is bad compared to the RX100. But the later model 135 even in its 4 speed trim is a decent performer. If you can get a 5 speed that will be the best.

RXG can be converted to perform like the later model 135 4 speed with a mild porting job and proper carburetion.

No. Don't just go by numbers. I have seen that, RX135 performs much better than RX100 on the road.

RX100 has crisper "metal" exhaust note, while RX135 has deeper one (I prefer the later). It's more of individual preference. RX100 sounds crisp for sure.

G in RXG stood for Green. It was designed to beat the emission norms (as was RTZ-125) that said that you could emit so much emissions per cc. So they bumped up the cc and maintained the same emissions. End result was an engine with mismatched porting/carb = poor drivability = turd bike. Both these bikes were interim solutions till they could establish themselves with a 4 stroke product.

its almost extinct now.

Nopes. There was never any RX-125 ever. Car & Bike mag ran an article on it (Malaysian version) but it never launched. If you saw it on the street then its an after market badging/sticker.

even I recall seeing an 'RX 125' with a star logo. with dad's mech ( dad was a mad RX 100 owner, and he and his mech were pretty good friends ( still are :D), and I recall ( can't be too sure) , him saying something along the lines of the logo not being original, but the RX itself has a lot more displacement than the official 100 cc, so it deserved to be called a 125

more as-in? 102 cc?:)

I think thats another urban myth as well. Rx100 performance was so devastatingly good that people could not believe it was just 100 cc.

Yeah, that was an urban myth. Some beleived in it so much that they went used bike hunting for the first models in the belief that they have a CC advantage. RX125 was a pipe dream, magazines printed scoop articles about the soon to be launched RX125 and even carried pics. But it never happened, possibly due to emissions.

I do not think, RX125 were cosmetic modifications, since whatever little number I saw on road looked alike in their styling. I thought, they were imports from other countries (Thailand or something?).

But, I don't remember ever reading about actual RX125 launch in India.

I own a RX100 and RD350. I personally did not find any distinguish difference between the RX100 and RX135 , definitely power delivery is more for the latter . RXG is exactly the same as the RX135 only few graphic changes

Hi all,

The RX125 was shown at the delhi auto show. For almost a year, the bike was listed on the pricing chart of Auto India magazine where they showed it as a 125cc 5-speed 15 bhp machine. I also spoke with a very old dealer in thane who says he had seen the bike, but for some reason, very few were sold (he claims there is one bike in pune and it has a disc brake)

This guy has also sold RD350s and Bobbys so guess he is believable.

The RXG had a different port map as compared to the RX135. RXG had a better bottom end. There were some issues with the Magnetto/Alternator due to which the bike was recalled and a free refit was done by escorts.
The Block says 4TL00 just like the 4-speed 135 but I did not get the production number stamped on the other side.

The RXZ 5-speed was launched sometime in 2001.

The block is the same as the 5-speed rx135 (4TL10).

The disc brake that came with the bike is manufactured by YAMAHA and it says so on the master cylinder lid. The disc kit was a direct fit from the SE-Asian models RXZ/RX-S/RX King.

The front brake lever I bought recently says "made in indonesia" on it and the part number 3KA-H3922-00 matches the RX-King Catalogue. So do the rest of the parts in the disc brake assembly.

I have put up a picture of the elusive Red RXZ 5s. my blue rxz 5s is the next pic.
I have the RXZ 5-speed manual for download or photocopy if needed.
