A pre-worshipped Mustang for 40 lakhs? You can realistically aim for that in a year.
How is the servicing for this beast turning out? Are Ford dealerships competent enough to be able to do a good job? Second, how much does a car like this cost per service? Honestly a Mustang for 40L is a fantastic deal and given the car's user profile, most of them would not have covered too many kms.

Re: Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 GT : Official Review

The car is pretty long and wide. A 3 series looked puny next to when parked next to each other, I guess it will be the size of a 5 series. It sounds amazing and will be a great buy in the 40-50 range. There is a white one on olx in Mumbai for mid 50s.

Does anyone know what these cars are like to maintain (Cost & complexity)?

It costed me INR 5420 to get the car serviced at an odometer reading of 3000 kms . This included paid service charges , engine oil change , wash and cleaning , car key battery change , washer fluid change etc .
This amount includes GST as well .
It surprised me as much as it is surprising everybody who reads this .

IMHO, the Mustang is a very simple car mechanically. Dare I say the Endeavour 3.2 is perhaps more complicated and has more gizmos than the old-school Mustang. I don't foresee any issues with maintenance. Remember, it's a volume car in the USA that people use as a daily driver.

My next buy is almost certain to be a 2-door coupe . Which one, I haven't finalised yet.

Welcome to the club, you have been trying hard to resist the “impractical” coupe bug

That's because my 2nd car is also a 2-seater and an open one at that . Needed a family car, hence the 530d. Because the 5-Series is so practical, I can certainly consider the Mustang or another coupe as the next addition to the garage.

Sitting on the fence. Should one choose American muscle, character & reliability (Mustang) or German finesse & engineering?

You already have a German, an American muscle would be a good pick to add variety to your garage.
However, we are speaking about American muscle as though we have a lot of options It's basically just the mustang that is your option on this front. You probably will get a lot more options in the German category.
However, I strongly suggest you get a V8! That should be top priority, even over just being a coupe.
V8's are a dying breed and this maybe your last chance to get a good V8 at a good price from the pre-worshipped market. NA would ideal but even turbo charged V8s are great! Assuming that you will keep the car for 5 years, the amount of modern V8 engines left in the used car market in 2024 will be slim and at high prices.

IMO its an easy choice, after the European finesse, the American cars just don't cut it.

Re: Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 GT : Official Review

IMO 2 years would be the sweet spot. The car has by then depreciated the max in those 2 years, while not overstaying her tenure with the previous owner, who might start thrashing her out out of boredom before the inevitable disposal.

Its actually an easy choice, spending a large amount of money on a car that doesnt have its signature in a sea of other cars just doesnt make sense.

The Mustang is probably the most reliable and easy to maintain car in its segment, which is akin to having your cake and eating it too.

The Mustang is a sturdier car than the Germans, having driven the media abused piece recently, I can vouch for it.

True. The Mustang has character. But after spending so much time in a 5-Series, when I sit in the Mustang, the interior has the quality of a 15 to 20 lakh rupee car. It's like moving from a 5-star hotel to a 3-star one. And that gearbox is DUMB compared to the 8-speed ZF.

On the other hand, the Mustang looks better than any German coupe IMHO, will be more reliable + cheaper to run and easier to maintain. It's ride quality is also something that one can easily live with. In my 40s now, ride quality is important to me. I already have one bumpy car (the Jeep).

True, but the interiors can be improved/spruced up in many ways easily.
Yeah, nothing beats the ZFs, still the pony runs when asked to, and will run longer and cheaper than ze Germans.

This Mustang belongs to a close friend of mine in Nasik, Maharashtra. It's the first Mustang in the City and the 31st in the Country. Also, it runs on a loud Borla Atak exhaust.

Apparently FORD is sitting on inventories from 2016/17. Some large discounts - more than 25 % off, on the current Retail prices
