Yes, it’s in the official brochure now.

There won't be a sunroof in Tata Altroz DCA, otherwise the Racer edition would loose It's exclusivity status.
Not sure about that, but they recently launched iCNG with a sunroof. And since it’s in the official brochure, I believe it’s confirmed.

The SA said they started accepting bookings for “S” (stands for sunroof) variants. As per him, the price will be out in about a week and the deliveries will start next month.

On a different note, I feel like hill assist is a big miss. Could you share your opinion?

PS: My friend is currently abroad and I test drove the cars for him.

It's everywhere in Tata Official brochures. But i think we will have to wait for the actual details.

I took a test drive earlier and on a 10 to 12٪ gradient (run length of 75 m and raise height of 8 to 10 m) the car went without breaking a sweat. I didn't floor the pedal. Maybe my perception could have been wrong. I'll try to gauge the same if possible today as I'm about to take up PDI today.

Re: Tata Altroz DCA Review | 1.2L Petrol Automatic

Have booked an Altroz XZ+ DCA and expecting delivery coming Saturday. I did get a feel of two other cars, i20 Sportz IVT and Baleno. Unfortunately they did not have a Baleno AGS for TD, hence drove a manual. I decided on the Altroz based on various factors like everyone would do,

Safety
Features
Comfort for a City drive
Space
Effective Air Conditioning
Price

i20 Sportz was good to drive, spacious and comfortable, but at 10.25 OTR, it was having less features and lesser "safety" too. On the other hand, the variant i have chosen on the Altroz at 11.00, (75k more) had way more good features and hence settled for the same.

5 start safety rating
Projector Headlights and cornering
Leatherette Seats
Leather Steering, Gear Knobs
Alloy Wheels,
Rear Fog lamps, Rear Wiper
iRA connect
Blackened roof
Sliding driver armrest
Rear Seat Armrest
Push Button Start
Ambient Lighting
Express Cool

yes, good amount of features and i in fact liked the styling of both the cars, interiors and exteriors, so no issues there. The drive was equally good, with i20 being more refined being a 4 pot engine. But, for a city drive, the Altroz fared well with smooth shifts, not really noisy (may be due to BS6 II) and had a decent amount of pickup as well. It may not be a match for i20's Turbo DCT (i drove that too), but that was not required for me with an additional 2L over this. My budget was around 10L and i stretched it a by a Lakh to get a complete car with all features.

Baleno - While it is a Maruti with phenomenal fuel efficiency, the viewing portion through the Windshield was somehow cramped and I did not feel it roomy and I did not pursue that at all.

Once i get my hands on this DCA, i will try and write a more detailed user experience of the same.

I had the option to choose the Sunroof version, but went against it and instead chose this previous XZ+ with Leatherette seats and iRA connectivity due to the fact that I am not a fan of Sunroof, that too this small one which also lowers the roof height by couple of inches. I believe Sunroofs are not that great for Hatchbacks as we loose some headroom and that turn out to be little tight

All positive points mentioned are valid but if you are looking for a good mileage , then Altroz might disappoint you a bit looking that you are metro city based.

When you are city driving, this car ticks are boxes and can't be compared with smoothness, pick up and gadgets of Hyundai I20.

Re: Tata Altroz DCA Review | 1.2L Petrol Automatic

My friend's two-month-old Altroz DCA is facing a strange issue. The car has covered 1012 km, and a service alert showed up along with a malfunction warning (I don't know the exact message, my friend shared this verbally). After that warning, the car seems like it's in limp mode. My friend is away, and it's his sister who was driving, so I'm yet to see if there are any other warnings/indicators.

When she checked with the service center, they said it's due to the service being overdue, and that sounds really weird. Has anyone faced this issue?

I have completed 500km on my Altroz DCA in Bangalore and it's just 8-9kmpl till now. Does it improve over time or will stay same ? I drive pretty sedately

Automatic gearbox failure within one and a half months of purchase - needs replacement

My worse fears on the Tata Altroz DCA has come true. The automatic gearbox probably needs replacement within one and a half month's of purchase.

We brought home the Altroz XZA+S on 20th October last month.

It all started with a noise last week. When my wife reversed (R) the car and then put it into Drive (D) mode and moved a bit forward, there was a screeching sound.
She thought that it was something in the road and continued. When I did the same sequence of events a day later (reverse and then drive), I also got the same sound.
It came immediately after the car if driven for maybe 50 metres after putting in drive mode (after the car is reversed). This sound is a bit longish lasting for about 2 seconds. It felt like the noise was coming from the back. I felt it was something with the brake pads or something stuck in the wheel. Visual inspection did not reveal anything.

Then when the car is driven, a similar sound comes, shorter in duration and also lower in noise, in speeds of less than 40. Driving the car during the past few days, I noticed that it generally comes when the brake is applied and then accelerated or during acceleration in lower speeds.

Today, the first service was due and I reported the issue to the workshop. We went for a test drive and the SA initially felt it was coming from the back as well - but initial inspection on the roadside did not reveal anything.

They took it back into the workshop and did their investigation. And then, my worse fear came true. The SA reported that it was an issue with the automatic gearbox and it will need to be replaced. They do not have any diagnostics to run on the gearbox. They have tightened all nuts and bolts, checked the wheel and brake pads and per my understanding, came to this conclusion by the process of elimination. Also, the sequence which leads to the noise (reverse and forward leading to a longish noise and slower speeds leading to a shorter noise), is an indicator that this is a gearbox issue.

I had a feeling that the sound was coming from the back; but on another longish test drive when I was sitting in the back seat today, on careful listening, it seemed that the noise was coming from the front.

The Service Center has sent their observations to Tata and will wait for observations from Tata. Based on Tata's observations, they will order the replacement.

I was told that I can drive the car in the meantime. I am not sure how safe that is. But two cars is essential for us. We will try to drive it at a minimum but cannot avoid it altogether.

After coming back from the workshop, I went to my trusted mechanic and he also mentioned that the noise was coming from the front right (where the gearbox is located) and could not find any issue in the tyre or that general area based on visual inspection. He also advised to follow the suggestions of the workshop.

The service center has replaced only one gearbox till now. I am really concerned about their inexperience in handling this situation. Very sad that the only scenario that I feared has come true.

Looking for suggestions from the members of this forum on any steps that I should take.

Update on this issue: Tata personnel in Pune have confirmed that this is an issue with the gearbox and the service center has asked for a replacement.

I also escalated the issue to the senior leadership team of Tata and received a call back from the customer care manager.

Currently, I am waiting for the ETA of arrival of the replacement gearbox.

I have also asked that an experience engineer from Tata be available when the replacement procedure is done. I had checked with the service center and found that they had replaced only one gearbox till now. So, they may be competent in their job, but they do not have the experience in this area. Response from Tata is awaited.

The replacement gearbox arrived last Wednesday and I took the car to the Service Center on Thursday for the replacement.

In addition to the Service Center personnel, Tata had sent an engineer from their automatic gearbox division to oversee the replacement.

The gearbox is situated in the lower part of the engine bay towards the left side wheel (the one nearest to the co-driver).
And they had to take out a lot of the parts to take out the faulty gearbox including both wheels as well as the axle.

The replacement job went smoothly and was completed in about 3 hours after which the car was taken for a long test drive and then handed back to me.

Since then, we have been driving the car and it is running smoothly. It has been only a few days only and hopefully things will be ok going forward.

I am definitely very concerned about the reliability of the car.
And a lot of parts were taken out and then put back in to replace the gearbox. That is also a cause of concern.
An automatic gearbox should not fail within one and a half months of operation. That is just unacceptable. That's a question mark on a lot of things.
I am in discussions with Tata Motors to assuage my concerns. Let's see where it goes.

If this replacement was required to be done without warranty, it would have cost 3.5 Lac + INR !!

Re: Tata Altroz DCA Review | 1.2L Petrol Automatic

My altroz DCA has broken down on road 2 times in the last 7 months of ownership and the tata technicians have been the most untrustworthy of the lot. It is currently resting with the dealer(Trupti Bhubaneswar) from the past week waiting for company technicians. A real headache it has been with the DCA.

In the first month after buying it, I took a trip to Araku Valley with my family from Bhubaneswar, it suddenly in running condition went into limp mode and immediately shutdown before 20kms from Araku on the ghats in the forest. It did not start and after a tedious 2 days of constant calls and follow ups with road side assistance it was towed to Vishakhapatnam and there they could not pinpoint the issue, after heated arguments and 2 up-down trips of Bhubaneswar-Vizag I got my vehicle after 15 days stating a semiconductor issue and an assurance that, it has been properly sorted after inspection by TATA specialists who had come because the vehicle was brand new.

But to my utter disappointment during early morning last week the same thing happened when I was out dropping a family member for their scheduled trip. The vehicle suddenly lost power and stalled on the high speed lane of the road and it wouldn't budge from there. Anyhow as this was in Bhubaneswar I called up my dealer and road side assistance and the vehicle was towed to the dealership and is sitting there still and they have indicated there might be an issue with the wiring or the gearbox but no more clarification has been made as they are waiting for a team from tata as the car is in warranty. I am on the verge of filing a complaint against the manufacturer at this point of time.

Re: Tata Altroz DCA Review | 1.2L Petrol Automatic

Now that its 2 years since the Altroz DCA launch, would love to know how this dual-clutch AT's reliability has panned out. Hope no issues similar to the early VW Group DSGs?
