Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, but 12V socket would enable normal recording always which I dont want due to battery drainage.
So I am looking for solution where dashcam switch into/out off surveillance mode(event based/low fps mode) when ignition is off/on.
Hardwiring via fuse taps causes problems for claiming warranty (atleast that's what service center says), so left with OBD which is plug-n-play.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

Dear Bhpians,

I have been getting start/stop error when i start the car in cold delhi mornings and it disappears when i use it and restart while leaving office in evening.

No engine performance issues noticed and car seems normal. Fuel is from same bunk always.

1 year service is up next month and have done 10,000 kms. Usage is 3 days per week as i alternate commute between my fortuner and virtus.

Please advise.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

Dear BHPians,
I recently took delivery of my Virtus 1L GTLine AT and have clocked 1k km.
I hear a "thud" noise from the front suspension when the car goes into a pothole (mostly sudden dips on the road because of drainage lids). This mainly happens when the suspension stretches up completely.
I even checked with the SA when I had been for the 1k inspection service, he said it is normal and all cars get that sound. He said he would tune the suspension but it hasn't gotten any better even after the service.
Is this common? That is the only problem I am facing and it is making me aware every time I go on a pothole.
Can we get rid of the sound somehow?

1. Sit in passenger seat of your GTLine and ask service center guy to drive the car over sections where you hear thud sounds. Do you hear and feel those thuds travelling in passenger seat?
2. Take test drive of another Virtus 1.0 AT and Virtus 1.5 DSG on the same stretch where you took your GTLine and listen for the same thud sounds.

Test drive cars may not be well maintained, but you will get a feel if the thuds are same or not. Service centers are notorious to dismiss complaints where they have to invest time in investigation by saying this is normal.

Thank you for your response.
We did try 1 and yes, the sound is heard on the co-passenger seat as well. Only after confirming the sound, he said it was a normal sound. We were accompanied (he was driving) by the QC guy who generally drives all the PDI cars. He confidently asked me to sit in any other VW car (Virtus and Taigun) and he assured me that the sound would be the same. I did not try because of the confidence he showed. Hence, just want to check in this forum if it is a normal sound.

Work around with the settings of dash cam to see if parking mode feature is available. Maybe varies depending on brands.
My dash cam has the parking mode feature where it understands and enters into low fps mode and only records when an event is occurring.
If the car battery voltage is dropping less than 12v, it shuts down.
So, in my case I don’t need to tap fuse box or connect to OBD port. So, just check settings.

I can share a similar experience in my Etios Liva. I bought it in 2012, and after a few weeks of driving, I heard the same "thud" sound from the rear shocks while going over potholes or rebound after speed breakers. I told the SC guys during the 2nd free service. They did a test drive and agreed to replace all four shocks under warranty. After that, till last year, when I sold it (at 48,000 kms), never heard the sound.

Oh nice! What dashcam model are you using and in what settings? I bought viofo 229 plus but yet to plug in as I am still thinking about whether to connect to usb-c or hardwire or obd.
When I checked with viofo team, they too mentioned there is no way around using a hardwiring kit, either through fuse tap or by obd.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

What is the reason for consistently higher sales of Virtus v/s Slavia?

TBHP Dec'24 sales thread shows:
Skoda has 1894 from 200 plus dealers
VW has 2257 from 180 dealers

Even dealer wise throughput is higher.

In my opinion Virtus sells more than Slavia due to one or more of following reasons
- Virtus has minimal timeless look as compared to Slavia.
- Infotainment unit is nicely integrated within dashboard as compared to floating infotainment in Slavia.
- Dealership and test drive experiences have been better. This is based on my experience in past 1 year after taking multiple test drives of both VW Virtus and Skoda Slavia from different dealerships. All VW salesperson were more knowledgeable and knew variant and features available as compared to Skoda SA.
- VW has better brand value in India as compared to Skoda even though Skoda has been in India for 2 decades now.
- After owning Polo for a decade I have seen more VW service centers as compared to Skoda.

Had the same in 1.0 Highline manual, around 6k km. I informed them on the first service, got the alignment done, and the workshop guy tweaked something in the brake region. It's sorted now.

Virtus cluster feature unlock

Hello All,

I have a a virtus 1 litre highline and i have recently unlocked ise features i.e ac control on screen , laptimer and so and so.

What am noticing is i did see refuel capacity and oil temperature unlocked and it was there in the morning but after some time it disappeared and this is second time it has happened , has anybody faced this issue ?

Did the feature unlock with engineering exponent banaglore and they have not heard about the issue at all and its puzzling , he did run through the diagnostics and the features were there enabled but not displayed for some reason.

That's interesting, I have a 1.0 Highline MT too and just overlooked the sound as normal - especially since multiple VW svc checked and said everything is as it should be. I've mentioned it in one of my earlier posts, but I let it be as there hasn't been anything untoward with the car except the Noise under certain conditions (suspension suddenly being stretched by a dip in the road).

Car has already done 15k km since I got it in April 2024. Would be great if there was a way to stop the sound altogether, even though it's a rare occurrence. Needs the right conditions to be heard, but it IS loud and scared the daylights out of me when I heard it for the first time!

My area has normal roads as well as paver block roads. On normal roads I didn't get of that sound. Very occasional. But on paver block roads you could hear that constant bumping of something plastic against hard rubber from the from passenger area. I was satisfied with their judgement of this not being a suspension related issue as this component is not covered under warranty, so I guessed they would've been eager to replace the suspension and mint money from me. But they didn't. And after their diagnosis worked, I was completely satisfied.

This used to happen in the initial days in my Slavia but I think after 15k kms the sound has gone away and now in the sudden dips I get a thud but a very gentle and damped sound compared to the earlier sound which was as harsh as something breaking and I would always expect the windshield to have cracked due to the sound But I have felt this sound in other German cars as well when you suddenly fly over a dip on the road like a sharp hump or a step.
