Re: Honda Elevate Review

The pricing looks good in comparison with Seltos HTX which is the variant to be compared with. Honda has superior engine and has ADAS, larger boot and safety but Seltos offers a panoramic sunroof.

Seltos IVT ex showroom : 16.60
Elevate ZX ex showroom : 16.00

Re: Honda Elevate Review

Does anyone have the official brochure with the full variant-wise feature list? The brochure in the website is still stale. Not sure what the IT team in Honda is doing on a launch day.

Re: Honda Elevate Review

The Elevate is fighting it out with Creta/Seltos and to an extent the Vitara/HyRyder twins.

The Maruti/Toyota twins have the whole Smart Hybrid things going for them with some bling and muscle perception with their body lines.

The Hyundai/Kia twins have the whole Turbo+DCT and Diesel+TC thing going for them in Seltos’ case. The looks and road presence is definitely good for these too.

Since the Turbo and Smart Hybrid options are missing with the Honda, it will anyway not attract a buyer looking for these two things and that’s going to be sore loss for Honda. They need to get their other Engine options to us folks here India, because we want more from our motors. The competition is with the NA MT/CVT or other equivalent options in the market only and that’s who Honda wanted to hit to start with.

Elevate, while missing out on some bling and some features compared to competitors undercuts the Seltos/Creta by a good margin on the NA manual and NA CVT counterparts. That is a strong point working in Honda’s favour IMO. Honda’s 1.5 i-VTec would be superior in comparison to the Hyundai/Kia 1.5L and their CVT is known for its reliability. Hyundai/Kia has improved their iVTs but I don’t think they are anywhere near the Honda Transmission.

The City Comparison

I won’t consider it a fair comparison. It is in no way a competitor to the City. The City is a flagship product, designed accordingly. The Elevate is visibly designed on a budget.

Generally, someone looking for a Sedan would have different preferences from their car compared to someone looking for an SUV. Most important being the ground clearance factor. If someone is already evaluating City vs Seltos/Creta, they are already thinking of an SUV two-thirds of the way through. So if they get an Elevate instead the other SUV options with similar Engine+GB combinations, that’s because they really wanted an SUV in the first place and Honda had an option in the market.

I may be completely misreading this, but I don’t see a large chunk of City sales going to the Elevate instead. Sure the Elevate misses out on a chunk of things, but seems to be par for the course for what it offers and is available at a better pricing than its corresponding competitors’ for similar stuff minus their bling.

Re: Honda Elevate Review

I don't think Creta buyers consider the Verna as an alternative, so it makes sense that ELevate buyers wont really consider the City. The SUVs and sedans are far apart enough to have separate Target Audiences.

And the pricing looks quite good. For the money, it is a great value proposition which people will definitely like. It maintains the brand value without seeming to be exhorbitant. People who value a good looking, comfortable, robust, Japanese product will definitely buy this, and this would be a big hit for Honda.

Re: Honda Elevate Review

I personally hold the view that Honda has set a reasonable price for the Elevate.

There was no way it would undercut the City by a margin of tens of thousands of rupees. As a crossover sibling to the City, it shares the same build quality, aesthetic appeal, features, and, notably, the powertrain. Let's not forget, the Elevate is heavier too and that obviously translates to additional costs.

While not feature loaded to the brim, the Elevate has definite strengths over comparable powertrain variants offered by competition (including the 1.0 TSI twins). In fact, the pricing undercuts all of them by a substantial margin.

BTW, I can't fathom why not having a hybrid or other transmission options has anything to do with the pricing. If they did offer the other options, they would have appropriate mark ups. Arguing that Honda's pricing for the Elevate is excessive simply because it offers just one engine option does not hold any merit.

Most budget cars have blanks where you can either put a 1din system and have a storage space, or put a 2din system. TATA does it the best, especially in the Punch, Nexon and Altroz. Even the Elevate's rivals have done it proper. The Grand Vitara has a traditional 1din or 2din hybrid slot. Creta does it in a classy way with a gloss finished blank and the Seltos has a storage cavity instead. I am aware that I am nitpicking for a very niche set of customers, and most would happily put a cheap android touchscreen, but there are a few customers who would put 1din systems or never ever put a music system (yep, they exist), for them this blank floating plastic just blocks the view and reminds them they bought the cheapest model. And they haven't actually gone aggressive on the pricing front too, though they didn't give the Elevate the 'SUV' premium over the City thankfully.

The steel wheel centre cups looks too cute and retro. Love them,. but at the same time can't believe a 2023 brand new car has those wheel centre cups. Maybe not used to seeing Honda branded centre wheel cups for the past couple of decades.

Re: Honda Elevate Review

Honda has still not made the brochure available. For a company that is fighting for existence, this is atrocious.
For Elevate ZX variant price point, one can get Kushaq 1.5 Ambition with the brilliant TSI at even lesser price considering the discounts, though Elevate will come with peace of mind.

Re: Honda Elevate Review

I am not in the market for a City or Elevate. But wanted to drive the group's attention to something that car makers are doing these days.

Case in point is Hyundai Verna and Hyundai Creta. When the new Creta will be launched in early 2024, it is highly likely that it will have similar feature list as Top of the line Verna (except Creta coming with sunroof panoramic), but will be eventually priced 2.5 lakhs more. If its sibling Kia Seltos can sell for 25 Lakhs OTR, Creta can too. So effectively, one is staring at a C2 sedan and a C2 SUV driven by the same features, engine and philosophy, but the latter being priced 10%-15% more because SUVs are in greater demand.

So who is complaining about Elevate being priced in the ball park of City or higher? I think the pricing is quite fair considering the better non-nonsense urban driving experience former offers, if you can gloss over the absence of a couple of features.

I'd wager this is introductory pricing, and if Elevate does well, the price differential between City and Elevate will only widen from here.

Re: Honda Elevate Review

I don't think it is overpriced, it is very much like the car neither here nor there, a middling price for a middling offering from Honda & will do middling numbers.

Re: Honda Elevate Review

Contradictory to most of the opinions here, I find the pricing to be apt and quite competitive. Honda India has recently learned that the only way to sell a N/A petrol in a sea of turbo-petrols is if they price the car right, same has been working for the City and it should too for the Elevate.

An important point here is that Honda is not even aiming at Creta/Seltos numbers they’re looking for a Car that’ll sell 3-4.5k in a month which Elevate is more than capable of achieving.

Re: Honda Elevate Review

The updated Elevate brochure is available from Honda (attached). They have provided a detailed list of features for each variant (SV, V, VX and ZX). Unfortunately, 6 airbags are reserved only for the ZX variant while all the other variants get only 2 airbags - for me, this could be a deal-breaker.

Also, as per Honda's official website, here are the Ex-showroom prices for the Elevate in Bangalore -

SV MT: 11,07,900
V MT: 12,18,900
V CVT: 13,28,900
VX MT: 13,57,900
VX CVT: 14,67,900
ZX MT: 14,97,900
ZX CVT: 16,07,900

Appropriate pricing to sell this car 2k/month to those who are Honda loyalist !! Everybody else will get their better options in Creta, Seltos, Brezza and not to forget the Nexon

Re: Honda Elevate Review

Elated after seeing the Elevate pricing. The undercut of 50-60 thousand over the Korean rivals will give the Japanese marque an edge. Hopefully, people will start making their buying decisions based on performance and practicality rather than gadgetry and widgetary that fade away three months into the ownership.

And I am super glad that Honda did not follow their obnoxious bike pricing strategy for the Elevate.

Re: Honda Elevate Review

I am of the view that the Variant distribution is all messed up. For the very first time in the history of HONDA, they have offered V variant without Alloy Wheels. This seems to be the biggest mistake by Honda. A car which will cost 16-16.5 lakhs on road (depending upon state) & it will not have alloys from Honda.

Majority of the people/ perspective buyers are disappointed with the price and the variant distribution.

Pricing is in line with the competition! Honda being a new entrant was expected to have priced it quite lesser than the established cars in Indian Market.
Creta sells for more than 10k units per month. Elevate may sell for not more than 2k units per month with this pricing.
