Hi,

It's already been balanced and trued. The weights are probably not visible from the angle the photograph was taken.

There are two new ones on the opposite side (which were not facing the camera earlier).

Strange, normally one would always remove the old one first.

Good luck

Following is the link to a vintage car exhibition that was recently conducted in Chennai. Definitely a good one with not just vintage cars but also some classic scooters and motorbikes. Review the link below for some good pictures.

Re: Mercedes W123 240D - Yet another addition to the family

Updates from 11th February, 2018

Started to attend to the niggles. The brake rotors were rusty, and I could feel the brakes dragging while driving.

Here is what a closer inspection revealed. The brake pads had broken into two..

New brake pads were installed..

Re: Mercedes W123 240D - Yet another addition to the family

Updates from 18th February

The damaged power steering and clutch hoses were repaired. New hoses were crimped in place of the old brittle ones.

Re: Mercedes W123 240D - Yet another addition to the family

Updates as of 22nd April, 2018

I had been planning to post updates for quite a while, but could not due to a crazy work schedule.

Apologies for the delay!

Had noticed that the clutch was quite worn and wanted to remedy the situation. Found a place near Swargate which replaces clutch linings at quite a reasonable cost.

End results can be seen below.

A bolt securing one of the engine mounts had fallen off - this was remedied by a new M10 X 40 mm allen bolt.

Re: Mercedes W123 240D - Yet another addition to the family

Posting a second update in order to upload additional images -

The injection pump had been leaking diesel. This was rectified by replacing the O rings and copper washers near the injection pump outlets. A serrated socket had to be specially ordered for this.

I had always felt that idling was a bit erratic especially after replacing the timing chain. Had checked valve train lash and had corrected it but there was no improvement in the way the engine idled. Used my compression gauge to check compression in each cylinder, but couldn't spot anything amiss.

Finally decided to calibrate the injection pump and noticed that fuel delivery to the first nozzle was much less than the other three. This was corrected at the local Bosch service centre.

The injection pump timing was adjusted using a drip tube Feroz had helped fabricate.

The engine feels much more refined now.

The battery wasn't being charged. Problem was traced to a faulty voltage regulator on the alternator. This was duly replaced with another Bosch unit.
