Re: Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300

Onward to the filler and surfacer work.

Here is where one realises how rare it is to find a well preserved VW with such a good bodyline !
So many original panels, and very few dents which warrant any filler.
KPS sure knows how to select cars !

3M body filler and Glasurit Surfacer

Glasurit Surfacer is sprayed on the panels, and this will provide an excellent foundation for the paint.

Thank you for the compliment! Guess I just got lucky with this car, credit to the previous owners. Seeing the originality of all the panels including the untampered factory welding, shows that the car was well looked after in the past.

This restoration is giving me a lot of joy and I am sure that the final outcome will be pleasing.

Cheers

Great job by Jalopy Shop

Thanks Arun. Glad you like the Java Green colour. Pleased to see the car in it's original colour. In the past, from the original Java Green colour, it was painted white and subsequently painted maroon at some point.

We used GlasUrit. Once you decide on the paint, you have use everything of the same brand. If you use surfacer of one brand and paint of another brand, you can have problems later on on.

For V&C cars the body preparation for the final painting is the key. As demonstrated in the previous posts, each panel by panel was inspected and tapped, where ever necessary. Anti-rust and sealants for the potential rust points and finally the Surfacer is applied.

GlasUrit Surfacer

GlasUrit Paint, Java Green has a standard code and was easy to prepare

The car is looking good.

Re: Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300

The colour has come out exceptionally well and the workmanship is on dot. The body work is requiring almost no body filler, that itself is testimony for good maintenance by previous owner and good body work by Pankaj.

Eager to see the end result and would love to have a drive when the car is done.

Re: Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300

Kaizer is giving the "lets go" look. Missing this cute little car!

The car is getting ready for the final seal between the body and chassis. Once this is done, the body will not be required to be taken out off the chassis again.

We can start on the mechanical works, once the body is fully seated for the final time on the chassis, for this restoration.

Wow!

Looks like this is going to be the "mother of all restorations" at least on the sheer number of OE Parts ordered. A salute to the passion you and your family has for restorations.

Cant wait to see the final outcome

Re: Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300

We decided to go back to original tail lights and added the reverse lights, as an accessory. Opted for twin reverse lights, to add to the symmetry

Sorry for the picture quality

The car was sporting a later model tail lights, but the original ones were given with the car
