Re: Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300

We finally reached our destination at Anjuna after negotiating bad roads and traffic. The 380 kms drive took us little more than 10 hours to reach.

Just love the picture taken by Karlos. Gives the impression that the Beetles are making a quick escape! Both are 1300CC Beetles and have largely the same engine

There is much difference between the 1967 (Green) and 1968 (Maroon) Beetles. The 1967's are more desirable and they many one year only features and was last year of the old styling. This set of Front & Back pictures captures the differences as can been seen to the naked eye

We had goan fish and pork, accompanied with some strong juice.

At the Fat Fish, food and service was very good

The Yellow Bamboo Hotel, requested for a picture of the Beetles and all of us. This would be used in the Hotel's social media too!

Typical Goa background is captured in this picture

The Fiat Select adds some character too.

As expected Mahabaleshwar was a absolute contrast to Goa! We stayed at the beautiful Dina Hotel where the night light makes a beautiful scene

Early morning sunrise at Dina. The Beetle is dwarfed by the 1960 Chevy Impala.

My friend captured this picture giving an overhead shot of the car

Before we left, decided to take same pictures of the car at Dina

After a lazy breakfast, we left via Panchgani towards Mumbai

The closing speedo at 85852 miles means this round trip was 1223 miles or 1957 kms

Cleaned the car up before parking in the car parking slot

After Kaizer's full restoration, this was the first major trip in the Beetle. Really enjoyed the car very much, as it is so very practical. Light steering, rear engine, peppy engine and good suspension makes the car a lovely touring car. The Daimler having done more than 6000 kms in touring, is now retired from the long drives. The Beetle is a worth touring replacement to the Daimler.

Hope you enjoyed the largely pictorial coverage of the "Susegad" Tour

Cheers

Re: Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300

Very beautifully captured! loved the pics but what truly stood out is how all the Beetles managed the very long drives trouble free! I'm still reluctant to take my beetle (1972 LHD) out of Mumbai due to the air cooled engine overheating and fears of stalling in traffic! Excellent write up and gorgeous pics!

Very nice. The experience must have been so memorable.
Any idea where those badges/keychains for the event were made?

Re: Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300

That's a wonderful travelogue.

A beautiful combination of Road, History and Heritage.

The detailed upkeep and maintenance schedule of these vehicles would be an interesting read.
Also would like to know about the challenges faced in acquiring roadworthy compliances.

Thanks for sharing and wish you many more happy miles.

There many good VW experts in Mumbai. I am sure your car be fixed, if you find the right person. The tin work around the engine should be sealed.

Mumbai, ofcourse. Badges are made for every trip based on the theme.

Getting the mechanical work properly done is always a major challenge. Fortunately we can import spares legally and this makes things so much easier. However we need owners to drive their cars regularly, so that they can be fixed. Unless these cars are driven regularly, problems cannot be identified for fixing. Typically, we experience recurring electrical problems unless the full wiring is addressed and fuel related problems caused by the ethonol blend. Lastly, Indian Juggaad does not work on the European cars.
