Body seems to have turned out good. But how come it hasnt been primered yet? Have they done the tinkering without primering it first? Also what have you decided to do about the convertible top fitting? Also did you get my pm reg. the front windscreen?

I always used to confuse myself between GAZEL and HERALD during my childhood days:)

BTW are they from the same company ?? and why is the HERALDS back wheels always cross(like our Piaggo Auto) ?whats the secret behind it

Um, you're not from the UK, are you? :)

Well, nothing too confusing between them- even if you dont remember the other details, just remember this major difference: Herald- tail-fins (lovely too!), Gazel- NO tail-fins. Simple!

Technically, yes they both are from the same company, in India atleast- Standard Motors, in your own city (Peranglathoor to be precise), now long defunct. But the Gazel was an entirely Indian-made car, a conception of Standard Motors alone.

The stance of the Heralds' rear wheels has been due to the cars' rather different rear axle set-up, which can be seen in some pics. in this thread too.

Hi guys, I am so sorry for the long pause in between I was too busy with my own work and was travelling extensively the entire while. I just returned yesterday and I am leaving again for south India early tomorrow morning - so you can very well judge my condition.
The carīs body is in paint shop still and the engine is lying at the garage.
The body has been primered and filled with putty and body fillers.

@Chanu: believe me I m not abondoning this thread I am just short of time to persue it at the moment. sorry again!

Posting some pictures of another 1967 Herald that is in running condition. The car is fairly original and its pictures may help you in restoring your car but this one's hood has been chopped off for that crude anti roll cage- or is it a bull bar at the top. If unpredictably a bull falls from the 5th floor on this car, the occupants will be unscathed?:uncontrol

Anyways i hope the wait was worth it as the restoration is complete(still some itsy bitsy things left to be done) and i cant wait to share the photos with you all.

A few stuff may be missing but she still looks worth the effort. The numberplate stickers really mar the effect though! :Frustrati

Try and get them done in a proper 'PERIOD' font and with a plate fitted on the front.

simply superb.. worth the every single effort and wait..this car is priceless!

The car now really looks like a sportscar! Always been a fan of 2 seater roadsters and I like this very much. Congratulations and do install the missing small trims etc. when you can.

This was a hurried up effort as I could not take out the car on the streets without the number on it(its election time here and the cops are really particular these days) I m thinking of getting the numbers hand painted - as in th olden days!!

I came here from the other thread, this is truly unbelievable, the car looks awesome and very well restores. Congratulations. It brings back memories of our old Gazel.

We had a Gazel, in the 1980's and at that time the frontal looks of the car was one of the best looking (as compared to Padminis and Ambys).

We had one too, from 1981 until 2010! What model was your Gazel? Was it the early type with the bonnet opening the same way as the Herald? Or the later one where the bonnet opens from the top (as in other cars)?

Do you have any old pics. of your Gazel?? :)

Shyam bhai did the Gazel came with the reverse bonnet opening like 118NE. IIRC it came in conventional type only, though i may be wrong :confused:

BTW you had yours till 2010, any pics of the same when you parted with it.

No it never did like the 118NE. That bonnet opened the same way as on other cars (viz. Fiat etc)
