Aah, so finally the chassis is relvealed! Welcome to the club! :)
And yes, it doesnt look as bad as jai's in these photos atleast. The front and rear right outer rails seem to need replacing though.

Do you intend to get a sandblasting done?

some of the work on the chassis has been done yesterday. See the pics.
I dont have the possibility of sand blasting in Agra so I guess I will have to get it cleaned with a hand held grinder(wire brush) that should do the trick.

BTW could you find out something about a spare rim and a wheel cap and windshield? I need them urgently brother. thanks for your help.

Wheelcaps are common to the Amby - should be fairly easily available.

Nice to see the work being done already. Rails look well-done!

I did keep in mind your spare rim and windscreen. My mech. tells me one scrappie at another scrapyard here is said to have a windscreen. It being quite far off, need some timee to check it out.

Wheelcaps can be had brand new in stainless steel, of the brand COX. They are made for Ambys, and fit Heralds too. Although I feel your car, being a later mk2, would have the dimpled types as on Gazels (and also on some later Ambys, like mk4) those are relatively difficult to find though.

real surprise came from the under side of the chassis :Shockked:. It is TRULY in a very bad shape.
We have started cleaning up the chassis with a hand held grinder anyways!

These motorcycles are not for sale so there is no point in making any valuation. Secondly, these motorcycles do not have fixed market values it all depends on who is selling, who is buying, how rare and how complete and genuine the bikes are.I keep on replacing and adding new parts every now and then as and when I find them. Even I have lost track of how much I have invested in restoring them till now.

Chassis has been repaired!!clap:

It will go today for the paint job!

Sure, will do. The thing is, my mech. had met the guy but he says that the glass is kept with various other glasses stacked in front of it, so will take time to remove and so on.
Congrats on getting t he chassis done btw! :thumbs up

The work seems well-executed, especially like the way it being sanded down with a metal grinder and also the absolutely clean metal they are using!
Do get it coated in yellow zinc primer first (MRF or Yesdee is available), before proceeding with any further work.

Off goes the chassis for the paint job. Though I feel pity for the riksha wala who had to transport it to the painterīs place but I had no other choice(it is not too far from the workshop)! I got the Esdee brand yellow zinc primer.
@Stanher: do you suggest to do an extra coating of red primer on top of the yellow one or should I apply the black paint directly on the yellow primer?

It is definitely recommended, that will give an extra anti-rust coating to your chassis! :)

The antirust coating have been completed today.
I have used Zinc Primer from ESDEE and Red primer from ICI.

Since the chassis is out & free to handle, why not pour some zinc / red-oxide primer into the inner side of the chassis tubes. Usually the rust starts from inside from the unseen sides.

The primer should not cost more than 500/-for a couple of litres with some part of petrol as thinning agent. It will really give the metal more life than the regular outside coatings. Try it out, it is cheaper & simpler as of now. Make sure to pour it generously through the insides & welding joints (rusts start most at the welded joints, as the anodizing/galvanising is destroyed due to extreme heat by gas welding).

It should last longer than the regular restorations they do it in Indian scenario!

I had done the same to the SS80's front wheel-wheel/engine chassis's inside out.It would have had been better you had done this before the outer surface treatment, anyways not too late! First pic before, second after complete pics. I had given a couple of primer coats & final of enamel paint for the inside surface flush painting, then sprayed the top coats with 1 Zinc coat, 2 NC primer coats & 1 PU paint coat. It was the best shiny piece on the entire car I can definitely say! On lookers simply took it as a brand new replacement part. That was the effect of the work, worthwhile to eyes & years too!

All da best 'Damas the biker', nice ride in making there!!

Hi Tantragna, thanks for the advice, will definately visit my painter today and make him do it.
