Hi friends,i am a new member of teambhp.I have a collection of classic cars out of
which there are two Standard Heralds.I did face a lot of problems with spares but
ultimately they were completed. The only problem were the clutch and brake master
master cylinders which were replaced with bolero ones.Another was the dynamo
which also was replaced with an alternator. That had to be rewound because herald
has a positive earth.Sorry, i cant post pictures because i do have not enough posts, shall do as soon i am eligible.

How about a chrome plating or a silver?

I was considering chrome plating the tappet cover but the problem was that the cover was so rusted i had to fix it with welding on a couple of places, on the top of it the rust had eaten up the surface so badly that i would never have got an even surface for that chrome shine.

Oh! sorry to know about that, however you can opt for Silver or any suitable colour as Stanher suggested. I felt you had painted shock absorbers in red and its cool so silver will also make difference.

Or even better- gold! That'll prove that old is indeed Gold! :D

OR...paint the block BLACK. And the tappet cover RED.

Yeh!! Stanguru getting it hot rodder haa! its a good idea indeed as the caption for Hero Honda says "the muscles got hotter" in our case "Herald heart getting HOT ROD".

though:OT How did you do in your exams Stanguru? the reason I am calling him STANGURU is because he is guru of Standards.
Hey Shyam I have spotted one Herald at Atthapur with some Modern Motors.

My advice is keep it simple and try and stick to originality as much as possible. What's the status with the piston rings?

LOL! No no, no hot rodding suggestions from me! :)

The block in many cases did come in black anyways. But from what I've seen the tappet cover ALWAYS came in the same black colour on all standard cars!! That made it look oh-so-drab! So I thought why not make the tappet cover look a bit more exciting? It will still have an effect on the overall looks of the engine.

Thanks! :)
They went well. 'glad I'm finally done......:Phew: but now to prepare for an interview I have to attend tomorrow!!

Interesting to know about the Herald. Any further details? I 'might' have known this car! Hehe!

I would stick with silver for tappet cover I think it will look good - red would be too much.
I havent got the rings yet - should be done by next week I think.

Would like to ask you that are you changeing the valves as well ?

So, the body has been mounted back on the chassis.Steering has been fitted.
Engine has been sent for a complete overhaul.

Glad to see the progress on this car. So the engine will be completely overhauled. What color is going on it. Any cosmetic part left to procure.

Good to see further work being done on the car!

Bodywork seems to have been coming out well. Have the hinges been fitted on momentarily, for the alignment?

Car itself will be Red, the engine would be black with silver tappet cover. The only things remaining now are the front windscreen and right side window glass.

Anyways here are the updates:
Engine have been overhauled, just waiting for the fuel pump repair kit to fire it up. Bodyline job has been finished and the car has finally landed at the painterīs place.
