Re: Land Rover support group!

Hi Everyone,

My search for a Land Rover 110 finally ended in early November 2014.

I found a 1991 Land Rover Defender 110 with a 2.5 Naturally Aspirated 12J Engine on olx!

After a few weeks of exchanging emails and photographs, I bought her.

The vehicle is in a respectable condition mechanically with the exception of a groaning power steering pump.

The interiors were totally ruined by the dealer who bought it from a person who lives and breathes Land Rovers. This unqualified dealer decided to spruce it up to make a quick sale and in the process totally spoiled it by getting a local painter and upholstery person to take care of it. Well, the mechanic left it on the road and everything was stolen with the exception of the engine and gearbox!

It is now taking me a 5 lakhs to restore it. The to do list includes new headliners, new dashboard, instrument panel, guages, switches, wiring harness, seats, sun visors, internal and ORV mirrors, door locks, door cards, wipers, seat belts, tyres and a broken drivers door window pane.

Over the next few weeks and months its going to be hard work. I've bought every single Land Rover Restoration book, workshop manual, parts catalogue and have visited every website that sells Landy parts.

I shall keep you all updated on the progress.

Wish me luck!

Wow, looks great! hope you have lots of fun with the restoration. Was the rear tub painted in a camo colour? or is that a sticker?

That's a sticker. Didn't like it too much as it was stuck on with cello tape. It's been removed now!

The amazing part of Land Rover ownership is the restoration. Thankfully most parts are available online. Parts catalogues are available for almost all the models from 1948.

The list of things that are required for my small project have reached the 300 mark. It's been three months now and I'm still collecting the parts bit by bit. Courier charges and customs duty are quite heavy on the pocket. Land Rovers have 100's of different screws, washers, bolts, nuts, clips and fasteners. So if you want to get the car into a factory type of condition, it's hard work.

My weekends have been spent working on my Excel sheet and searching for each of the parts online. My wife can't seem to understand my dedication to the cause!

As they say in Landy parlance... One wife. Livid.

Re: Land Rover support group!

My Landy has received some updates. It's now almost ready. Just needs a few small (but expensive) things which can wait for a few months.
