Hi!
I know for a fact that the Police of the Bombay State had Land Rovers, BML registered. That means around 1955. So there must have been someone to look after them, or atleast to sell them top the Police, perhaps a sub-agent? There are photos in my police collection.
In the 1960's many Landies came in, I remember one standing on a petrol pump at Vile Parle of the family planning association of India. It had a slogan painted on it, otherwise in green colour. At that time the slogan was two or three will do!:Shockked:. BTW, now only two are desirable, V2R2.
There very many many Landies in Goa with many Govt. Depts, all GDA registered.
Cheers harit

Hi 4x4er,
Was you long wheel base landy in Goa in december by any chance.i clearly remember seeing a similar vehicle with behind ladder and the stickers parked with its bonnet open.On close inspection the fan belt had snapped.I like land rovers. a friend of mine has 2 of them with him.
cheers |
Allo there, yup that was me with family on holiday interesting story about the FB, I cleaned out the Landy before the 25 day long coastal trip and chucked the spare belt since i had it for 5 years and never needed it (lesson to learn) fan belt broke on the way to old Goa on a Sunday, continued to drive to Old Goa sent the mob back to Calangute (after mandatory Church visits) by taxi (some Lavande resort) started a hunt for FB size A44 no luck in Vasco, Panaji etc then drove back to base mostly in 4th overdrive with about 5 stops to cool off. Monday morning hired scooter to Panaji found belt in the main circle off the bridge back in 1 hour fit belt in 10min all back to square.
Thanks to Optima yellow top did not have to push start in spite of a dozen or more stops without alternator charging. The battery is 5 years old.
Oh Hello Mr. NM . Where were you? what happened to colour then , show us photos & the whole story.
By the way, Mr. NM still a Newbie ? (A Wolf in a sheeps clothing ? )
Yours, Rajubhai.
There is this missionaries hospital called Padhar Hospital at place called Padhar, near Betul M.P on NH69.They had this greenish LR series 2 used as ambulance, i spotted it some 13-14 years back, but heard that it still there. Also read somewhere they had more LR's not confirmed though.
Hi all, there are some pics I want to share with you. This is around 1963 , yes thease were produced before 1965 !
Think India (Young India ). Thease are the Real mod. jobs ,not some 'Lift kits '
My Question is Can WE do it ? It needs passion .
Yours, Sudarshan
Guys,
Finally got the Defender 110 home with the new (2nd Hand 200tdi Defender engine in lieu of the 2.5NA). Also installed a Roverdrive. I am having problems in posting pictures as there is a size limit. Will try in a lower resolution and see.
If any Bangalore guys want info on parts/technical, I have loads of it in soft copy. You are most welcome to let me know if you want it. Not too sure if I have for series thought.
Have been trying to get MICROCAT to get working on VISTAs but haven't been so successful. Will try it with windows 7 and see.
Sudarshan I come often to Pune, we must meet up the next time I am there.
Ok Guys, clicked new photos at 3MP and managed to upload them.
Picture-1: Love the Spare tyre on the bonnet. It give the Landy a totally different look. Got used to driving with it no problem with the vision as I am 6.3" tall.
Pictures 2-3: Various angles.
Picture 4: Is of the inside. The green lever is the Roverdrive (overdrive).
Picture 5: Front view of engine bay.
Picture 6: LHS view of engine bay.
Picture 7: RHS view of engine bay.
Picture 8: All stainless steel turbo pipes with all silicon hoses.
Will be doing the painting, interiors stage by stage. I use the Landy everyday in the morning and take it for a nice spin of over 150km on a sunday.
Hi Prithvi, Whata nice ,neat ,clean car that is . Just Perfect. But when she is going to get all muddy ?
You are most Welcome , sure we must meet. Any time.
Yours Sudarshan
Sudarshan, have taken her off roading many times. But not after the new engine swap. Want to get a new OME suspension, get the interiors done up, new tyres and rims and finally a new paint job. But this will happen after a year only.
Need to run the engine in for sometime and then will make her nice and muddy. With the 200tdi it just pulls and pulls especially after the twistedperformance upgrade to 130bhp. The Roverdrive is a joy to use on highways.

Looks very nice! Nothing like the series Landys. Wish I could get my hand on a top condition Series-1
Hi all , its my New hobby, ' Sewing ' :D yes you heard right. (got a machine to sew tarplin, canvas etc.) . I have made a G.B. tunnel cover in my Landiies cabin ( to reduce heat ) & made a ' Cargo Hold Net ' in the rear section of the Landy. This net is made from old (but good ) seat belts. this is made to hold the luggage, tyre etc. down on rough rides.
Have a look.(any one wants ? Tailor is here )
