The car just looks beautiful!

By the way, where is this place the car is being worked at?
I see many more great rides in the background.

Ani, i noticed that there is no fuel gauge in the meter cluster, so is this VW a 60-61? ALso the original steering wheel was from an older (57?) beetle right?

Re: My Beetle Stage 1

The tires are good and just need to cleaned and she has a wrong steering wheel the correct one is purchased and will be fitted soon. There are some changes made in the dash earlier which have been rectified to original. The year of the car is 1965.

Cheers

Re: My Beetle Stage 1

from the tread pattern, the tyres seem to be MRF.If I am correct they stopped making this pattern with white walls over a decade ago which would make them not road worthy[ meaning unsafe] and will have lost their cushioning properties resulting in a hard ride and rough on the suspension.New tyres will mean a far more enjoyable ride in a very lovely daily useable classic.

Bullgodji is right, old tyres tend to crack, damage the tube and lead to frequent punctures. Soon you will find that one stepney is not enough. In my younger days I too used to scringe quite a bit, but whenever I went for longer rides with my Amby (on old tyres) I first went to my mechanic and took an extra stepney. If the trip was longer, I took two. I had a roof carrier at that time.
But one observation, the MRF, CEAT, Goodyear and other tyres of that time lasted much longer than the modern tubeless radials which we fit now on our modern cars. I have never replaced tyres in the days of old because the sidewalls became weak.

Suggest you make sure that your tyres are good enough to reach the starting point, numbers are needed over there.

Cheers harit

Re: My Beetle Stage 1

In a way you are right Sir , but for our famous lungi friends of the south and the great bhalo ones from the east, both MRF and CEAT make a small batch with either the 1" WW pattern or the 2" WW pattern, these are made yearly and have to be traced immediately with tire dealers in the south or the east I got the smaller 1" pattern as I had the doors cream and they would clash.

otherwise the tires are in good nick and should be fine. But will keep in mind and do a check before she finally rolls out.

Cheers
