Any idea of the Prince Azam Jah blue and silver Bentley that Prince Mukkaram Jah took to Australia? Heard it was swindled by his one time caretaker....? Mukkaram Jah Bahadur hit a cart at 80mph while driving back from Calcutta in it...back in the sixties. I have some pics of him with his Austin Champ...(now with Shadaan College people, Hyderabad)...Will post them.

Can we repost the delahay pic

[b]Unless of course, you are describing a second car

From what I understand the Momen car was with Mauzamjah (the prince's uncle) and the car that Mukkaramjah took to Australia was his father Azamjah's.

From the last I heard the Bentley in Australia was all but gone left to rot outside in the compound. I hope someone has rescued the car. I have a very vague memory of that car, too vague to clearly remember what colour it was.

It's a tiny village/town in Andhra Pradesh. Here in Andhra these were referred to as Samasthan. I don't think he had the title of Maharaja though. It should be Raja of Pithapuram

Many thanks for the wonderful picture, Travancore. I need to do some digging up before the pics are unearthed. Give me a little time!

What kind of Bentley was the Azam Jah car that was taken to Australia

It's too old a memory Wasif. I saw the car just once. I do remember hearing stories that he had had a sheet of steel welded to the underside to smash rocks often found on ghat roads during his trip to his Ooty home. The sheet added so much weight to the car that the tyres wore out in just one trip! I think it too was a convertible. Memory fails me on the colour though. I think it was green. Whether it was a coach built Bentley I wouldn't know. I am sure the car may have been sold brand new so some records should be available.

I managed to catch the car at the auction, though I do not know if she did get sold or not. A handsome car.

I could not resist this. Karl's picture of the Rewa Daimler taken at Blackhawk, and a picture of the car along with other exportables in a compound probably in Indore. Many of these cars also went out.
They have not put a Rewa number plate.
Ofcourse the story about the 4 elephants is just a fable, why do they persist with that? Atleast they now admit that its more likely to be just a story.

Cheers harit

This is a picture from the princely India page on FB showing a scene from Kohlapur, any idea what the car is ?

Clearly an early Buick. Anywhere between 1915 to the 20s I'd say. Google Baba may be invoked for more illumination!

Here is a different version of Wasif's Kohlapur picture - maybe someone can now positively identify:
