Apologies for the same.

Re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

I'm contemplating between the following helmets around the 30K budget mark:

Scorpion ADX-2 - Like the fliptop and extremely useful incase of long ride. Don't need to take off the helmet to drink water.
Scorpion ADF - 9000 - Reviews are solid and comes across as an extremely capable and feature loaded helmet.
Shoei Hornet ADV - Base level helmet compared to the above two but then its a Shoei.

Thoughts welcome!

Also any inputs on O'Neal Sierra helmets are welcome too

For those who are wondering why I'm buying such a cheap ECE 22.06 helmet, it's because it a stopgap helmet till I'm able to get my hands on a slightly premium helmet from abroad.
I ordered the same helmet again for the 3rd time on 27th August 2024 again in Size S. After the bad experience of wrong size and refund (I have still not receive the refund for the first 2 helmets), I opted for COD.
Received the parcel today.
- Size Supplied was L (Ordered S)
- Amazon box was intact but the SMK box was missing.
- Helmet was intact.
- Helmet Bag was there.

Delivery boy was not allowing to check without paying. My wife refused so he opened the package himself. As expected the size was wrong. My wife refused it.
I'm currently talking to Amazon for the refund of the first 2 orders which have still not come.

Din't expect Amazon to be so pathetic.

Stop getting helmets from Amazon. Expecting it to be right the third time?

Get it from powersports /
6kiom / highnoteperformance online.

You give them a call and confirm with them the return policy for size mismatch.

If it helps, I have the ADX-1. Bought it a 4 years ago.

Pros:
  1. The flip top is helpful to reduce face fatigue/claustrophobia and have conversations when halted. It is quite easy to drink from, I have a bottle cage on the engine guard and can drink cyclist style.
  2. The helmet itself is well put together both inside and outside. Even with a BT headset leaves enough space.
  3. Came with a pin lock and generally looks nice

Cons:
  1. It is loud, my older and cheaper helmets were quieter. On longer rides I use hearing protection but while commuting it is loud.
  2. Doesn't have as much airflow as my older helmets. I ride with the visor cracked open, the other vents don't seem to make a big difference.
  3. Helmet is not rated to be ridden with flip top open, and if you run the peak or open the flip top while riding, it gets billow-y.
  4. It is a heavy helmet, with bluetooth and cushions sweated in, mine is about 1850g (without peak). Compared to an old MT Mugello which is 1600g. So the flip top does weigh a bit.

While it does well on construction and convenience, it misses out on cutting wind noise, airflow and weight. So would keep an eye out for these issues on ADX-2

On the Global Tiger Group also the feedback was 50/50. Some people swore by it and some suggested that I look at ADX 9000. I'm now undecided!

I know this but as I had also mentioned in the riding gear thread, we have very few shops here and these shops also have limited stock.
Additionally even online S size is not easy to find.
Now I know someone will come up and say "You should travel to Bombay, Pune or Bangalore. There are plenty of shops there with a good selection". In fact many people have told me that. If that was practical, I would have done it. Unfortunately I cannot make a trip right now.
I was not expecting Amazon to get it right but there was no option other than that.

I already ordered a MT Targo from them. Had to settle for ECE 22.05

You are referring to Amazon or Powersports? Both have a return policy. In fact I was also getting a nice Suomy helmet in size S but that site was not giving exchange on discounted items.

The Shoei Hornet is available for 30K? Where?
At this price I would pick it over the other 2 just beccause the Scorpions are modular.

Feel you mate. Even in 'tier 1' cities getting a small sized lids are not always in stock. Unfortunately, I don't see this changing unless we have a proper culture of wearing helmets. Hopefully scooters finally getting large enough boots that can accommodate a proper full sized helmet should help in that regard.

Re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

After enough procastination I have finally purchased the LS2 Storm-2 FF800 Helmet with Micrometer Lock (remember this was my requirement).

It was the last piece available in XL Size. Hence, I did not bother about the graphics. I chose function over form this time.
Price:Rs. 10,700, which includes the Pinlock.

Initital impressions:
1. The weight management is brilliant. It does not feel like a 1.5kg helmet. I have my MT Hummer, so I could easily feel the difference.
2. I rode 10kms after purchasing. Wind noise and ambient noise suppression is very good. I kept the vents open since it was traffice time. If I would've closed the vents then I think it would have been very quiet inside. The con is that you can't hear any vehicle beside you unless someone honks.
3. Quality of padding is very good. Lets see how it ages.

Excellent choice, you will enjoy your rides with the helmet. It made a night and day difference in Noise suppression and helmet stability. It fits like a glove and the visor clicks in place nicely. My only gripe is that when visor shuts, there is still a visible panel gap between the shell and visor lock, so there is a small chance to dust to make its way inwards.

Re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

Hello folks - need sizing advice.

Purchased Axor Hunter helmet yesterday. Size L. While removing the helmet I felt it is tight on top of the ears. Takes a slight effort to come out and feels slightly painful.

While wearing I don't feel any issue. Sales person also confirmed that 'L' is my size and this is my fit. I also double checked with tape and L seems to be my size.
But there is a tightness while removing and slight pain just above my ears. The sales person mentioned that this should be fine in a week or so. Is this true with Axor Helmets?

P.S.: I am 5'11. getting back to motorcycle after a decade post my Honda Unicorn. Getting the Triumph Scrambler 400 delivered this week, so bought the Helmet in advance.

Re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

When I started my bike search in Feb this year, the first thing I embarked on was to buy a helmet. However, having been away from biking for a while (4-5 years) and not having bought a helmet in 9 years (last was in March 2015, SOL Helmet), I was like a total noob. Knew the major brands but was clear that the first helmet this time will be a budget helmet till I figure my riding quantity and type. Also wasn't aware of shops so Google Baba zindabad and landed up at a Helmet Shop (RS46 Helmets) in Parel, Mumbai.

It was my naivety that I chose helmet on the basis of fit. Liked a LS2 helmet but it was not available in size. So the shop guy swapped the pads to make it a snug fit.
Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet-img_20240909_142004.jpg

Using this I went about testing bikes and even did 2 tours. But I felt I could have a better fit.

So went out searching in the market. And selected 2 helmets.

LS2 MX 436 Pioneer - II ECE 22.06 certified
Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet-img_20240910_111753.jpg

This is going to be my daily helmet. I like the fit, Haven't ridden with it yet but have read good reviews.

Also finally ordered the Scorpion ADX-2 - https://scorpionsports.eu/en/casque/adx-2/ from FC Moto. This is a modular helmet and will be used for touring. On rides of more than 2 hours, you need to hydrate well and taking off helmet every time is a pain. That is why modular. Also with the beak off, this is just like a Full Face helmet. Liked the features and the general reviews.

My Helmet store.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

Hello fellow BHPians,
I have recently purchased an Arai helmet from FC-Moto, Germany. It is on its way to India right now through UPS. I wanted to know have any of you purchased anything from FC-Moto and what is the protocol one has to follow, such as paying customs duty etc. to get the product? Kindly let me know. Thank you all in advance.
