Another pictorial example of showing importance of buckling up. Last month it was Safari with inside dents on windshield and now this one. Hope the same pictures are shown in newspapers.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Spotted this Ertiga on the Yamuna Expressway waiting to be towed. As per the the security guard it rammed into a slow moving/stationary truck from behind when the visibility was reduced due to thick cover of fog.

The speed should be easily above 120Kmph, looking at the way the roof has been mangled.

Any news on the casualties or survivors ?

Spotted this GT Tdi smashed in front yesterday on mulbagal bypass. The impact was so high that the engine block has broken out of the chassis. I've seen many accidents, severe and non severe but in no situation had the engine come out. In one pic you can judge the distance of the car from whence the engine broke out.

How did this happen?

Driver was speeding when a four way road turned to a two way road on an incline. There were no road markers placed to warn the driver. Driver of gt tdi was doing about 120 and when the road turned to a two way he lost control and smashed into a lorry.

Occupants of the lorry and car are safe and no injuries to the car driver. He literally walked out of this crash safe and sound except for a mild concussion and the shock of the crash.

Bad accident. No wonder the occupants walked out of the crash as the cabin is fully intact.

This does not look like a head on crash though. The roof and the cabin show no signs of any crumple. From the pictures it looks the car was hit at a right angle by a fast moving vehicle and the point of impact was the engine area. The impact was so hard that it flung the engine out from the bay. The occupants can consider themselves extremely lucky to survive a crash like that.

Edit : The angle of hit must have spun out the car too. You can see round skid marks just near the car. Looks like the driver was trying to join the tarred portion of the road from the rough side and failed to notice a fast approaching vehicle.

Looks like it is the Ertiga from the below news:

Two people were killed in an accident on Yamuna Expressway early on Sunday morning when a car crashed into a stationery lorry owing to dense fog. The accident occurred around 8am when a father-daughter duo in a Maruti Ertiga rammed into the stationery truck.

^ Tragic incident. However three things stand out from the news.
1. A lorry (parked dangerously ?), stopped due low visibility.
2. Car crashing to in lorry due to low visibility.
3. Though visibility was low, car seems to be driven at high speed.

It's almost precisely what happened. The car hit the right hand side of the lorry wheel, smashed the diesel tank and also ruined what looked like a transfer box (its the round box at the bottom of a lorry which is in between two wheels; not sure what its called). I was surprised how the car didn't go underneath the wheel of the lorry. Considering what I saw these guys are very lucky.

He was carrying a lot of speed and from the looks of it; its clear that when he turned right he lost control of the car. It's a major fault of the road works contractor, there were no warning signs nothing that could have indicated that the road becomes a two way. We were doing about 80kmph hence easily controlled the car but if I wasn't talking to my dad I'd probably have been doing 100kmph too and skidded on the gravel side.

Was that bridge barricaded closed? It looks like the driver might have seen that at the last minute and swerved to avoid the barricades, but hit the cement divider instead?

Yes Rehaan. As evident in this snap:

One section of the lane was closed with the barricades. The driver who was drunk perhaps realised it a bit late!

This has made maneuvering such a huge vehicle a child's play for them and with just a slight turn of your hand you can make the whole truck change lanes. Earlier it was a painful process and hence they were extra cautious and alert while doing so. Do you guys agree?

Agree. I remember in initial days of power steering equipped buses (in & around Chennai), the conductors wouldn't allow foot board travel and ensure that (even the folding) doors are locked!

It has probably got to do with the fun these guys have with power steering after being used to old school works. (yes it does come at others risk!)

Good lord!! Never in my life have come across a mishap leading to engine being thrown on road. Thankfully no one was hurt and I must say the car took the hit with strength as the cabin is intact.

thanks

Hyderabad: Five persons died and four suffered injuries when their Tata Aria rammed into a sand lorry parked near exit gate 14 of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) at Tukkuguda early on Friday as they were on their way to Tirupati. The condition of one of the injured passengers is reportedly serious. Police suspect dense fog could be the reason for the accident.
