Matha Sagar at Kibbananhalli Cross about 15Km before Tiptur.

Prefer South Indian food for breakfast. Not a big fan of the CCD type restaurants.

Thanks. But not sure if restaurants would be open at the time when I reach Kibbanahalli cross. (Very likely to be before 7 AM).

Got a few more pointers from Fauji's "Monsoon is Here" thread. He suggests : "Tiptur (Kamat) or Arsikere (Raghavendra Lodge) or Kadur (Vinayaka Cafe) or Birur (Preethi Canteen)". That's plenty of options - will decide based on what time I reach these places.

Re: Road trip to Horanadu and Sringeri

Visited Sringeri. Left on Sat morning & back on Sunday eve. Onward I took Shimoga route. From Shimoga took N.R.Pura-Koppa Sringeri. When just enquired with a local tax driver about the road condition, he asked me to take NR Pura/Koppa route. This route from B'lore to Sringeri is good. Near Tarikere some stretch is really bad. Some times sudden deep potholes come up.

While returning I took my regular route Sringeri-Balehonnur-CKM-Belur-Hassan. This route much much better than Shimoga route. This is more faster also. Near Aldur 2-3 kms road is broken, but drivable easily. Anyone to Sringeri, can opt this route, than Shimoga-Thirthalli route.

Kala> as scheduled left @ 5.00 am but couldn't see any Red Figo on way. However, near Tarikere one Red Figo was parked roadside under a tree & having their food carried. No BHP sticker was visible & I just passed thru' w/o stopping.

May be we never crossed each other since I don't recall seeing a white Rapid either.

I also started at 5 AM from Banashankari. Passed Nelamangala at 5:40, Tumkur at around 6:10, Stopped for breakfast at Tiptur between 7:05 and 7:25, and reached Shimoga by 09:25 and Tirthahalli by 10:25.

I also recall seeing a Red Figo that was stopped by the side of the road, but that was a little bit after Tiptur, not near Tarikere. May be a different one.

Re: Road trip to Horanadu and Sringeri

Hi Kala> Even I crossed Nelamangala around 5.30 - 5.40, may be we missed narrowly. Didn't push mine too much, since it has done only 4k+ kms. For breakfast we went inside the town of Shimoga (Mathura paradise I think). From there I didn't take Thirthahalli Rd, instead I took NR Pura road, which was excellent till Sringeri. First time I travelled in this (Shimoga) route.
That Red Figo may be near Tiptur, I don't remember.

Re: Road trip to Horanadu and Sringeri

Which is the best route between these places
> Bangalore - Hornadu (Any good route passing through Hassan?)
> Hornadu - Sringeri
> Sringeri - Kollur
> Kollur - Udupi - Anegudde - Kateel
> Kateel - Bangalore

Someone please suggest as I am starting this Friday early morning in a Civic. Little concerned about the road conditions

Re: Road trip to Horanadu and Sringeri

B'lore - Horanadu not sure. Even I had planned & dropped this & drove straight to Sringeri. B'lore-Sringeri is in good condition [BLR-Hassan-Belur-Balehonnur-Sringeri]. I heard that Kottigehara-Kalasa & Kalasa-Horanadu is in very bad shape. But Kalasa to Sringeri via Kudremukh is good. Probabaly another route to Kalasa/Horanadu you can try is Balehonnur (roads are good) to Kalasa/Horanadu.

No idea on timings. What I would suggest is to be there in the 8-11 AM slot. That should be a sure shot time to have the temple open. A very early start should enable that. Sringeri closes in the after noon and opens after 4. In that time I think you can also visit the Ashram. (This is old info. Please confirm).

NH13 all way. Why go via Jayapura? You should take the NH13. Jayapura option is only for CKM/Kalasa side.

Re: Road trip to Horanadu and Sringeri

Road Condition Updates:

Bangalore - Chitradurga -- As usual Awesome after 6 laning.
Chitrdurga - Shimogga -- Pretty decent. No qualms
Shimoga - Sagar -- Good
Sagar - Honnavar -- Good
Honnavar -- Kundapur -- Very good
Someshwar -- Sringeri -- Potholes in many sections

Worst Condition:
Sringeri -Jayapura - Baalehonnur - Aldur - CKM (last 5 to 8 years, this was my fav road and was in prime form for fast ghat driving. The whole 100 Kms section is in SHAMBLES. Suggest to avoid this completely and take the Koppa route instead.

Tumkur - Chitradurga takes Less than 2 hours (consistent 120 kmph).
Chitradurga - Shimogga takes 1.5 hours.

Re: Road trip to Horanadu and Sringeri

From our trip last week:
1. Bangalore (5:15am)-Tumkur-Chitradurga (8:00am to 8:30am breakfast stop)-ChannagiriHolehonnur-Shimoga (10am)-Stops at Gajanur Dam and Sakre Bylu Elephant camp-Tirthahalli (12:15pm)
Excellent/Good roads mostly, few small rough patches between Channagiri-Shimoga and the beginning of Tirthahalli road.

2.Tirthahalli(9:30am)-Koppa-Sringeri(10:45am)
Excellent roads.

3.Sringeri(1:45pm)-Sirimane Falls(2:10pm)
Excellent till Kigga temple, narrow road for 2-3 Km after temple, some small rough patches but nothing to worry. The place is worth a visit, kids will enjoy.

4.Sirimane Falls(3:45pm)-Agumbe Road-Right turn at Hosa Gaddhe village-Kundadri Village-Kundadri Hill(5pm to 6:15 pm stop for sunset)-Kundadri village-Guddekeri Village-Tirthahalli(7:15pm)
Excellent roads till about 3 Km before the turn off at Hosa Gaddhe (~10Km to Agumbe from here).
Road to Kundadri village and then Kundadri Hill is also in good condition though narrow and steep at some places, definitely worth a visit for a great view of sunset! Would recommend this anyday over Agumbe where it's dirty, crowded and just too many people, vehicles and hawkers all over the place.
