Difficult in a good way or a bad way???

I've had different times for the entire trip in different traffic conditions. I did the whole thing through night traffic once and through day traffic once. The times mentioned in there are day time.

I have to travel to Bhopal from Delhi in the next few days. I have done Delhi - Raipur (CG) and back in the month of May 2015 via NH 26. Therefore, I have an idea about the Delhi - Agra - Gwalior - Jhansi - Lalitpur - Sagar section.

For Delhi - Bhopal, there are many options but the most feasible are as follows:

Option 1:

780 kms
Delhi - Agra - Gwalior - Shivpuri - Guna - Biaora - Bhopal
Shortest route but heard that there are worst roads between Biaora - Guna - Shivpuri section. How are the latest road conditions in Biaora - Guna - Shivpuri section?

Option 2:

780 kms
Delhi - Agra - Gwalior - Shivpuri - Ashoknagar - Vidisha - Bhopal
How are the latest road conditions between Shivpuri - Ashoknagar - Vidisha?

Option 3:

810 kms
Delhi - Agra - Gwalior - Lalitpur- Malthone - Bina - Kurwai - Vidisha - Bhopal
A 100 kms bad section between Gwalior - Jhansi which takes 2 hours. How are the latest road conditions between Malthone - Bina - Vidisha Bhopal section?

Option 4:

854 kms
Delhi - Agra - Gwalior - Lalitpur- Sagar - Vidisha - Sanchi - Bhopal
A 100 kms bad section between Gwalior - Jhansi which takes 2 hours. How are the latest road conditions between Sagar - Vidisha - Bhopal section?

Option 5:

892 kms
Delhi - Jaipur - Tonk - Deoli - Bundi - Kota - Jhalawar - Bhopal
No idea about this route.

Option 6:

1060 kms
Delhi - Jaipur - Ajmer - Chittorgarh - Neemuch - Mandsaur - Ujjain - Sehore - Bhopal
The longest possible route to Bhopal but preferred by many. By the way, no idea about this route too.


Please advise me the best possible route to Bhopal from Delhi with latest road conditions + good eating food joints + good fuel stations in MP. I will be leaving early (5 AM) to beat the Delhi - Gwalior or Delhi - Jaipur traffic depending upon the route advised.


Since I have already driven on NH26 therefore, my own preferrence will be Option 3 or Option 4 but I am looking for the best route as advised by the experts here.

My father drives between Mathura & Bhopal very often and has explored every option available to avoid Shivpuri - Guna - Biaora - Bhopal section.

Don't even think about it. Very bad roads in Shivpuri - Guna - Biaora - Bhopal section. Earlier in the year, had heard of proposed or ongoing construction/ 4-6 lane conversion in all these sections, but do not have latest updates.

My father took this option in summer 2014. He reported quite a few bad patches between Shivpuri - Ashoknagar - SH19 Junction. Very time consuming.

He also took another option: SH19 via Vidisha - Mungaoli - Chanderi - Pichhore - Datia. Few bad patches otherwise decent road throughout, but again, very time consuming.

This is my father's preferred option but there will be slowdowns while passing through Bina, Kurwai & a couple of villages. 2-laned, road condition very good. Very mininal traffic.

BTW, GWL - Jhansi has gotten much better compared to what it was for the last few years.

In my India trip in February 2015, while going to Bhopal, we decided to explore another route in this section. It turned out to be a great decision. It was Malthone - Khimlasa - Khurai - SH86 just west of Rahatgarh. Very good 2-laned road with almost no traffic. Minor slowdown in Khurai.

This could be the fastest route if not for the Sagar bypass road & the road that connects this bypass to Jhansi-Sagar hwy. It was in beyond pathetic condition when I took it couple of years back, with potholes so big that even the mighty Xylo was no match.

Sagar - Vidisha - Sanchi is an excellent, smooth 2-laned road. In Sanchi & beyond, this road was not so smooth in February but not too bad. Not sure if that is now corrected.
Bhopal Bypass is excellent.

Option 3 with slight tweaking, Malthon Khimlasa (take left from Khimlasa towards Khurai instead of Bina), Khurai Rahatgarh (3 kms before Rahatgarh you have to take sharp right, many people miss it) Vidisha Sanchi Bhopal.

Though I always take this route, want to try chanderi pichor datia road once.

I am planning to go to Gurgaon (Delhi) from Bhopal ... plan to take Bhopal - Vidisha - Kurwai - Bina - & then reach Gwalior. Am unsure that the Jhansi - Gwalior strip is worth risking. So instead of going from Bina to Malthone - Lalitpur - Jhansi - Gwalior (then to Agra and Delhi), what would you guys recommend post Bina to reach Gwalior. Thank you.

Jhansi Gwalior is OK to drive, nothing much to worry.
Last week I took Bhopal Vidisha Melhuha Mungawali Chanderi Pichore Jhansi. Even this section is in excellent condition.

I am planning to do a long MP trip in last 2 weeks of June. In my 2012 Verna, I plan to do singleton driving till Indore and the route back to Delhi would be with family (including two kids aged 7 yrs).

Day 1: Leave Delhi very early morning and attempt to reach Udaipur
Day 2: Leave Udaipur by afternoon and reach Indore late night
Day 9: Leave Indore and making a stop over at Sanchi Stupa, reach Panna national park
Day 11: Leave Panna and reach Khajuraho
Day 12: Leave Khajuraho and reach Agra
Day 13: Leave Agra and reach Delhi

Please send me your best route suggestions for the entire trip.

Delhi - Yamuna Expressway - Agra - Gwalior - Jhansi - Lalitpur - Malthon - Bina - Kurwai - Vidisha - Sanchi - Bhopal continues to be best option. Roads between Gwalior to Jhansi are not that good but still doable, rest in excellent condition. Remember to turn right from Malthon towards Bina, landmark BPCL Fuel Station on Right hand side just before start of a flyover. Once you cross Border / Integrated Border Check, slow down and keep watch for this turn.

Thanks.. Ive been told that a bridge near vidisha has washed away and thus going via here would be a bad idea.

A better career opportunity is likely to take me to Gurgaon, and I am looking for ways to drive the Accord there. The best route identified by Google Maps seems to be via Nashik all the way to Indore. Just before Indore, the road turns left towards Ratlam, Mandsaur onto Kishangarh, then to Jaipur and from there to Gurgaon.

Considering that I shall be driving solo and around 400-500kms a day is doable, what is the best way to go about this?

What are the road conditions in the various states?

I know the Nashik - Dhule patch should be good, if not broad. I had travelled on this route in rains a few years back and found it to be in good shape overall, and hope the same situation exists today.

How are the roads in MP? If I take a detour via Bhopal (which is a few hours more), and reach Delhi via Zhansi, where would I get bad roads?

Should I plan for an early morning start, reach and halt somewhere in MP, and then reach Delhi / Gurgaon the next day or plan for two nights' stay en route and target reaching Gurgaon/Delhi in broad daylight?

Jhansi-Gwalior section is very bad. Avoid, if possible.
