Not sure when did you drive last. We drove during Ramzan weekend. You are correct that couple of KMs before TN border had potholes. But to say there was no road and only mud is not correct.

I drove during the last weekend in july, after the ramzan. Didn't say that it was all mud. There was a bad stretch of 4-5km filled with potholes and stuff and at certain places, the entire width of the road was full of potholes that there is no tarmac visible. Jeez

Re: Bangalore(KAR)-Valparai(TN) trip advise.

Just back from a trip to Valparai during the long weekend. The roads in Tamilnadu were fabulous! Did not see a single pothole in the entire route!

Bangalore to Salem on NH7
Salem to Avinashi on NH47
Avinashi to Palladam on SH166
Palladam to Pollachi on SH19
Pollachi to Valparai on SH78

Total 443km

My only complaint was the long wait at all the toll booths. The first toll plaza after the Elevated highway was the worst - 40 min wait. About 15 to 20 minutes at all other toll plazas.

Completely ridiculous. The time and fuel saved because of better roads is completely lost at the toll booths. Time the authorities came up with a quicker method of collecting toll.

Re: Bangalore(KAR)-Valparai(TN) trip advise.

Planning a Blore Valparai trip during the last weekend of Oct.

The route I plan to take is what Google maps suggests :
Blore -> Krishnagiri -> Erode -> Tiruppur -> Pollachi -> Valparai

Any idea what the current condition of the road is? I could not find any post from 2017 on the forum.

Better to take Bangalore-Salem-Avinashi bypass-Mangalam-Palladam-Pollachi-Aliyar-Valparai. This is the preferred route - combination of 4 & 6 laned roads till Avinashi bypass, then excellent 2 laned roads.

Thanks for confirming NPV. Good to know that the roads are in good condition.
Also ended up reading your Valparai travelogue late last night
