Overall, there are around 22-23 diversion on this route. So, you need some luck to escape all these diversions without any traffic-jam . During few of my drives I have crossed these diversions without much traffic, but at times I have got stuck for 15-30 mins too.

Last Saturday I started from Chennai at 3:30AM, but got stuck after Vellore at one of the diversion. This was because one long trailer truck which was carrying wind mill fan struggled to cross that diversion. It took around 20 minutes for the traffic to clear.

I have not tried any other routes as this route is more convenient despite all these unexpected traffic-jams.

This just sounds incredibly painful. The northern route may have less diversions but could take substantially longer. Especially if I need to connect to the Mysore highway.

If you want to connect to Mysore highway then Krishnagiri route is the best option despite these diversions.

I am tired of taking all the routes. Every route has problems. I feel bad that there is not a single road that is properly done. Every route has abandoned flyovers and half done service road. What is the point to start a 4th experssway. I am sure its all corruption. When they cannot fix first 3 routes they have started a superhighway.
Anyway, i am going to try the old krishnagiri route on Thursday from Chennai to Bangalore. The route from Gudiyatham or Vellore to catch Chittor highway is all waste time due to road from city. Then there is half done roads and road closure at Marakalakuppam from Ranipeth.
Any suggestions what is now the best alternative.

That's the conclusion I came to when I returned back last weekend. When alternatives are under the knife, why put the Hoskote-Chittoor also under one

I can add a route 6 to your list, you can try Krishnagiri-Tiruvannamalai-Tindivanam. The bypasses were completed. If you are doing south Bangalore to south Madras it makes sense till the work till Chennasamudram is complete.
