It was alright. Meanwhile the toll has been hiked only at krishnagiri vaniyambadi and pallikonda toll gates. Ranipet and sriperumbudur have been spared.

Typically the "Operate" part of BOT is measured in decades. In a project of the size of the GQ, each BOT contract would be perhaps have around 30-35 years of toll collection.

I guess with the increase in toll rates, traffic would increase even more on the alternate routes now (state highways) .

Overall the increase is only 65 Rs. Worth it I would say as time is money and the stretch between Ranipet and Mulbagal is still not 4 laned.

Once NH4 route toll booths start functioning, we don't have choice of taking a route without toll to goto Madras. It means, in both GQ and NH4 one has to pay toll to reach madras ! No alternate choice.

I was wondering anyway we are paying toll to use the national highways. Does that mean, the life time road tax we pay while purchasing vehicle is only for city driving? Spending several thousands of rupees only for city roads is too much IMO, and that too for a city like bangalore with No good roads, or with lots of potholes, speed breakers, etc etc....

Hold on. Toll for the state highways are already on paper. Just time should answer. Read that KA govt, is very keen on implementing this toll on SH.

How come? Is it confirmed that there is no hike in other tolls?

Pallikonda Toll used to be Rs. 45/- for one way and Rs. 65/- for two ways. This was until last week during one of my bi-monthly trips to Ambur/Vaniyambadi. How much is it now?

OT: About Tolls, The tolls have become like money machine nowadays. The Mahindra City toll on NH45 is already transferred to the government from L&T (who did the Mamandur-Tambaram stretch in the early mid-90s). With regards to this stretch, I remember Hosur-Silk Board was done a long time (except for the bridges).

This stay is only against the L&T tolls of NH46, it does not apply to the NH7 toll at Krishnagiri.

I will be going to Bangalore next week. I plan to leave by 3PM from Chennai on Tuesday and start the return by 6PM from Bangalore on Thursday. I hope both the journeys take less than 4.5 hours.

Starting from 3 pm from Chennai, it is possible to reach Electronic city in 4.5 hours time with Civic.

In Return journey, starting at 6 PM from bangalore on a weekday peak hour, it will take quite a good amount of time (atleast an hour) to exit bangalore/EC.
Also, its driving after sunset, so could delay little more. So add an hour or so in both ways.
