You have to add Hyderabad and Vijayawada along with Nagpur, as they will also fall in the route.

Other than that Bhopal is about 200kms off the NS Corridor in MP. And I think Jabalpur too has a few flights a day, and is about 100kms off the NS Corridor.

Since the Q was on driving from Delhi to Hyderabad, I mentioned only the airports till Hyderabad. Jabalpur is too much out of the way & has very limited flights - like Gwalior - but yes, is definitely an option.

re: Delhi - Chennai : Route Queries

Hi,

I am planning to get my car from Moradabad to Chennai (Self driving) either by end of the present month or the 1st half of next month.

However, i am not able to plan the route to be taken considering the rampant monsoon rains everywhere.

Please suggest the suitable route to be taken.

I'll be doing this along with my wife and vehicle is my Santro. Can people who have current information on the road conditions along the possible routes please update me?

Which all places can be chosen for night stops?

How much distance to be covered per day?

Lastly, since my vehicle is UP registered, how should i deal with the cops in between?

re: Delhi - Chennai : Route Queries

The broad plan is as follows:
a. Leave GGN around 0000 hrs on 8 Aug, reach around Chittor or Udaipur by daybreak. Rest and tele-work for a few hours.
b. Sleep the evening of 8 Aug and start around 0300 on 9th Aug. Attempt to reach mumbai bypass or Pune.
c. Reach BLR / nearby MAA on 10th night. If I feel like it - I would sleep for a few hours at a toll plaza, and try to reach MAA by day break on 11th

Now I just need Indra devta to not be too generous. Accu weather somehow predicts 1-4mm rain across most key cities (Jaipur, Surat, Pune, Belgaum, BLR etc), with only mumbai predicted to have 6mm rain across 3.5 hours.

No problems would arise due to regn being UP.You would face problems only once you reach Chennai and start driving inisde the city on regular basis.Obtain NOC from place of regn and submit the same in local RTA at Chennai and pay the life time tax.

As for the route, its fairly simple:

Day 1:Moradabad-Jaipur
Day2:Jaipur-Ahmedabad
Day3:Amd-Pune
Day4:Pune-Chennai

If you are not ok driving such long stretches, then d2,you can stay at himmatnagar hotel landmark,d3,you can drive himmatnagar-mumbai,d4:mumbai-blr and day5 blr-chennai

Roads are all good no problems. At Ahmedabad you can stay at Best Western Takshashila on the SP Ring road itself.Pune plenty of hotels on the bypass road-Sadanand regency, ginger, sayaji etc.instead of jaipur,if you can drive another 2hrs,then I would suggest that you stop for the night at Kishangarh instead of Jaipur.Since Jaipur-Kishangarh is an expressway, driving is stressfree. You can stay at 1589 Royal Heritage at Kishangarh or at Country Inn by Carlson both on the NH8.Remember to go towards Bhilwara-Chittor after the GVK toll gate at kishangarh. This is part of the GQ.

One could also possibly go the easterly route on the GQ, like this:

Day 1: Moradaba-Varanasi
Day 2: Varanasi-Kolkata
Day 3: Kolkata-Vizag
Day 4: Vizag-Chennai

Both the easterly and westerly course of the GQ work out to about 3000kms (+/-100kms).

And of course there is also the shortest distance option using the moslty complete N-S corridor, as mentioned previously in this thread.

Thanks a lot

How about travelling from central india instead of longer GQ.
It would be around 2200 KM, which would easily save money going down the exhaust pipe.

May be
D1: Moradabad to Sagar
D2: Sagar to Hyderabad (or may be somewhere before that)
D2: Hyderabad to chennai

Anyone done this roads just recently can please suggest the present conditions.

This is useful man - let's hope the rains haven't been too nasty. Do you have any specific reccos of hotels costing around 1-1.5k, and have wifi (even cooler will do in this weather!)

I would stick to the GQ North-West-South corridor, via Delhi, Bombay & Bangalore.

Road are all fine.

I would leave early morning all days (5-6 am) & have limited breaks till end of day at 7-9 pm.

D1: Moradabad-Delhi-YEH-MathuraBharatpur-Jaipur-Kishangarh
D2: Kishangarh-Chittorgarh-Udaipur-Ahmedabad-Baroda-Ankleshwar
D3: Ankleshwar-Surat-Bombay-Pune-Kolhapur-Belgaum-Hubli
D4: Hubli-Chitradurga-Bangalore-Hosur-Krishnagiri-Madras

Any recommended trusted quality fuel pumps near chittorgarh/udaipur or in maharashtra near Pune?

HVK, Ranjit,

The detour is about 700+. Is that big a delta worth it ?

If we discount the AP problem, would it be still good doing:

Mooradabad-Agra-Gwalior-Jhansi-Seoni-Nagpur-HYD-BLR-Chennai ?

Agree that North of Nagpur and the regions around Jhansi/Seoni are bad. But still does it warrant a 700km detour? Thats the question.

The following BP/HP COCO retail outlets come to my mind:

1. Chittorgarh-Soniyana on NH 79 RHS while driving from Jaipur towards Ahmedabad with Ghar Dhaba [BPCL].

2. OranTaPran on NH 8 few km before entering Sardar Patel Ring Road on LHS while driving from Udaipur towards Ahmedabad [HPCL].

3. Bharuch-Luvara on NH 8 RHS while driving from Ahmedabad towards Mumbai with Ghar Dhaba [BPCL].

4. Talegaon [near Pune] on Mumbai-Pune Expressway LHS while driving from Mumbai towards Pune with Ghar Dhaba [BPCL].

5. Khedshivpur [near Pune] one each on either side of NH 8 with Ghar Dhaba [BPCL].

6. Vadgaon [before Kolhapur] on NH 8 LHS while driving from Pune towards Kolhapur [BPCL].

7. Kolhapur on NH 8 RHS while driving from Pune towards Kolhapur [HPCL].

8. Sira [before Tumkur] on NH 8 LHS while driving from Pune towards Bangalore [BPCL] with Ghar Dhaba.

Like I mentioned earlier, I think the reduced traffic and reduced distance make taking the NS corridor makes for a better option.

Among the incomplete sections, its only one 20-30 km section in the Gwalior-Jhansi section is said to be really bad. Most of the other sections are in advanced state of completion, and are likely to be complete in less than 6 months. And this section can be avoided as mentioned by me earlier, by taking the following detour.

re: Delhi - Chennai : Route Queries

I drove today from Noida to Gwalior, so will give a short update on the route.
It took me 6 hours, including short breaks totaling around 40 minutes.
I need not say anything about the Yamuna Expressway. The road from Agra to Gwalior is 4 laned and very smooth, except around 15 kms of diversions which are ordinary. The approach road to Gwalior is also in poor shape.
The main bottleneck though is Agra, it took me one hour to cross Agra city (at 6 PM in the evening, on a weekday).
