Hi Amit,

I too recommand Suggestion given by Riju.

Don't take ring road. Its too long and mysore traffic is less and decent. After you cross SrirangaPatna continue straight only and keep going straight. Don't take left or right (ring road and roads to other cities) and you enter Mysore city and you go via bus stand, near Palace. Ask for NajanaGuudu road or even people travelling with you can read sign board to Ooty/Najanaguudu. You also cross ZOO road nearby and enter that Palace exhibition ground and you can spot Kamat hotel left side. Its very good place to eat around, highly recomanded. Continue straight you get couple of junction and Lake on right side. Its easy to figure out and people in Mysore give you best directions and but do double check to make sure you are in right road

Have a nice time.

Regards,

Ravi.

amitoj another word of advice is to watch out for those unmarked speed breakers. Happy tripping.

I take the left on the ring road while going from BLR -> Ooty/Bandipur. This is the easiest route to follow, and much of the road has no traffic and is a 4-lane divided road where you can cruise @80-100kmph.
Afterwards, you turn right at the T, and the Chamundi hills is your guide to reaching the Nanjangud road.
I guess its down to personal preference (have done the through the city, and right on the ring road too)

Back from the trip.

While going to KGudi, i went via Mysore. The signboards were quite sufficient to guide me through and it was a breeze.

On the way back, turned left onto Ring Road before entering Mysore. It took me 25 minutes to get onto the Bangalore highway, and Bangalore was 20 kms nearer when I got there. So, 25 minutes for 20 kms is also pretty decent.

Also, from Nanjanagudu to Chamrajanagar, there is a trick to spot unmarked speedbreakers. Just keep an eye out for 3 or 4 big stones in a line on either side of the road. There will be a speedbreaker between them. Apart from that, the usual spots for speedbreakers were quite expected. Near railway crossings, bus stops and in villages.

Cheers

I did a BR Hills trip a week back. While returning, took the Kgudi - Kollegal - Maddur - Bangalore route. Some bad patches, but very much drivable. Took just over 4 hours.

Tips please

I am planning a trip to K Gudi Jungle lodge this weekend.

Had a few questions

1) Is the Chamarajnagar - K Gudi trip doable on a honda city? With the rains and with Honda's low ground clearance, I am a little worried.

2) Anything to watch out for?

Re: Best road to KGudi

Had been to K Gudi last weekend and had a great trip. I took 2 different routes for the onward and return journeys.

Forward:
Bangalore-Maddur-Malavalli-Kollegal-Yelandur-BRTemple-K Gudi

The road from Maddur to Malavalli is broken and rough in places. Malavalli to Kollegal is rough initially, but after the rough stretches, it is very good. After Kollegal, there is a road which reaches BR Hills checkpost (looked good), but we did not take it as we were driving at night. The Kollegal Yelandur is bad initially and very good later on. Yelandur to BR Hills checkpost is in bad condition and being repaired. Checkpost-BRTemple-K Gudi road is very good.

Return:

K Gudi-Nagavalli-Chamarajanagar-Nanjangud-Mysore-Bangalore

K-Gudi to the forest checkpost is bad and is rough till Chamarajanagar. Chamarajanagar to Nanjangud is good for the most part. Nanjangud-Mysore is decent.

Re: Best road to KGudi

Why not via Kanakpura? Or its just that you wanted to take Mysore road.

Initially, we planned to via Kanakapura, but since we left late at night and needed to fill up petrol, we took the Mysore road. Did not want to take any risk as we did not know whether there were any 24hr petrol bunks on Kanakapura road.
