Whatever you decide, do not take the Nagar road to Shirdi. I have horrible experience on this road with regards to bikers cutting you off everywhere. In fact my first experience at getting knocked by a bike was on this route. The Chakan route is the best way to go.

I was there last month. I saw that almost everybody reaches there in the morning and heads home ( or to a nearby city like Nashik ) in the evening. So they all have a quick bath/b'fast and head straight for the darshan.

Once they have the darshan ( which normally takes about 1 1/2 hours ) they have their lunch and rest till it's time to catch the bus/train. Hence, the best time to have good, peaceful darshan is around 2.30 or 3.00 p.m. While it took us about 100 mins to have the morning darshan ( around 10 a.m ) we could have the afternoon darshan in only 7 mins !!!

Parking at Shirdi

There are a couple big parking areas infront of the temple entrance across the main road. There are also small corners and crevices that take a few cars and people try to lure you into one of those places. So just keep a lookout for the bigger parking grounds.

I read on a Billboard yesterday that there are now direct flights to Shirdi from Mumbai. Operated by Jagsons airlines.

OT: When you reach Shirdi, look for the JBL speakers in and around the temple.

jagson has always made complete fools of themselves on the delhi-kullu sector. Pretty bad rep all around.

Know several friends who were turned back last minute!

@sam: What does your siggy read?

You mean AhmadNagar?

I normally take Nagar Road. The road till Nagar is very good. Not so good road from Nagar to Shirdi. You can take a break at "Smile stone" (good restaurant) before Nagar.

Jan 3rd would be a good date to visit compared to 25th Dec.

Update: A colleague who frequents Shirdi suggested me following route:

Pune- Nashik Phata Highway-35kms- Chakan - Sangamner -60kms (right
turn)-40kms- Babalewasher-(Left turn)22km - Shirdi

Nashik Phata to Sangamner is approx 140kms

Any comments on this route ?

Sorry guys for reviving an old thread.

This summer I will be going to Shirdi for 2 days straight from Pune airport.
What is the best option?

- Buses, preferably volvo! (Is there any service from airport, or will I have to come to city?)
- Cabs
- Train?

Also, regarding hotels will probably be staying at Shraddha Inn.
Is this hotel recommended?

cheers

There are buses plying to Shirdi from Pune. As far as I know, none of them operate from the airport. You will have to come to a place called Yerawada which will be around 5-6 km from the airport where most of these bus operators stop to pick up passengers.

Cabs - many tour operators have cabs which will take you to Shirdi.

Train - There is no train connectivity from Pune to Shirdi.

if you are going to shirdi from airport, you can take cab at airport, no need to come to yerwada.
if you want to travel by volvo, then you have to come at yerwada.
from airport to yerwada, you don't take cab, auto will do the purpose.
airport to yerwada is within 2 km max.
if you are opting for volvo to shirdi, there are very less on that route.

edit: pune shirdi is @ 200km. as you are halting at shirdi, my suggestion will be take taxi from pune. indica will serve purpose.
you will be at comfort and can visit shani shinganapur, little detour of 15 km while coming back to pune. also can take darshan at ranjangaon ganapati[ one of ashtvinayaka].
