Re: Bangalore - Kodaikanal - Munnar : Route Queries

Hello All, quick heads-up.

I completed the Bangalore-Kodai trip in my Innova Crysta with senior citizen parents and kids driving along with me quite comfortably, with very timely and perfect snack and bio breaks, using some great suggestions from Haldian and Rajeevraj - Thanks a ton to you guys!

Here is a short summary of stop-over points, for reference of everyone else taking this route in future, and these worked perfectly for my family and me.

Here goes:

Stop-1: Roughly 1.5 hours from Whitefield, Bangalore.

Adyar Ananda Bhavan - A2B
NH 44,Dharmapuri-Bengaluru Road Gundalapalli Village Shoolagiri, Chinnar, Tamil Nadu 636807

Stop-2: Roughly 2 hours from previous point.

GRAND ESTANCIA
349/3 Bangalore, Bypass Rd, Narasothipatti, Salem, Tamil Nadu 636004

Stop-3: Roughly 2.5 hours from previous point.

Adyar Ananda Bhavan - A2B
Thomaiyar Puram, Adiyanuthu, Tamil Nadu 624002

Stop-4 (optional, we skipped it): Roughly 40 mins from previous point.

Hotel Temple City
NH 45, Chennai - Theni Hwy, Genguvarpatti, Tamil Nadu 624203

I decided to skip the last one and head straight to my Kodai location (Xanadu Birkenhead) and that took me exactly 2.5 hours from Stop-3, amongst lashing rains and thunderstorms all along the ghat roads!!

Hope this helps~

Road trip - Bangalore to Kodaikanal and Munnar

Hello All,

About a few weeks back, i had been on a trip from Bangalore to Kodai to Munnar and back to Bangalore. It was a 5 day trip and I wanted to share my experience on the road conditions.

Bangalore To Kodaikanal
We left early morning at 5.30am. I took NH 44 Bangalore - kanyakumari Highway. We had to travel on the highway until Dindigul and then take a right diversion to proceed towards Pannaikadu, perumalmai and climbed Kodai ghat. Kodai ghat was a very long stretch and it just took 2hrs just to climb the ghat.

With around 2hrs break for breakfast and lunch, i reached around 4.30pm.

The roads were very good all the way and Kodai ghat roads were average where roads used to get very narrow at some portions.

Kodaikanal to Munnar

This was the best route ever to drive. We took the Theni Munnar Highway via Bodimettu. The roads are of international standard and was pleasure to drive. It was evening by the time we left from Kodaikanal and the roads were covered in fog making it even more awesome. Make sure to enjoy breathtaking viewpoints all the way.

Kodai to Munnar roughly took around 5 hours.

Munnar to Bangalore
We could have used the same route as we came to go to back to Bangalore. But we decided to try a different route.

Our route was Munnar - udumalaipettai - palladam - avinashi - Salem - Hosur and Bangalore.

The road conditions were average until we reached Salem. I would have preferred to take the same route which we came via Theni, Dindigul to reach Bangalore.

It took 12hrs including all breaks (2hrs) to reach Bangalore.

Overall it was an amazing trip and we simply loved the trip.
