Has anyone visited Shivasamudra falls around this time? Would it be the wrong time to go there because of lack of water?

Would make a good weekend. But dont expect water. An early start would be good. The sun is quite strong these times during the later half of the day.

Anyone been here recently? Any updates on the roads? Planning to take this route

If you are heading to Georgia Sunshine, the road is good all the way on 209. But exit 209 after Malavalli and not before.

You drive about 7-10 km after Malavalli bypass and then you would see an exit for Shimsha village. Its a tarred narrow road and you go for about 4-5 km when you would see an exit. This is muddy road for about 1-2 km. Any car can go.

Is this what you are suggesting?

Yes that is the default route to the place. Good road all the way. Only the last 2km is mud road which you will have to drive in.

Was there couple of days ago on Saturday evening, made a quick visit on the way back to Bangalore :)
We took the road marked for Shivanasamudra, it is the entrance towards the hydro electric plant. When going from Bangalore this road will be after the left turn at Malavalli (right goes to Bannur/Maddur side). About 5-6Km ahead, there is a big tree acting as a median on the left. Once you take this turn you will reach a gate where there is a security check point where you may be asked where you're headed, etc. Go past the gate and there is a concrete road and about a Km or so later you will see a sign for "Cauvery Falls", turn right, go past some old buildings (quarters), a Solar power farm, an old Church and get onto a bridge. At the end of the bridge there is anoher Gate and security check point where you make a left turn and in about 100 metres or so you see a large parking lot and a KSTDC Mayura hotel. There are few steps here to go down to a View point for Gagana Chukki Falls. You cannot trek down to the falls here.

When you head out of this place, at the immediate security check point go straight (this is the right side of the T junction formed by the bridge you took earlier and turned left). This will then lead to Bara Chukki falls, we did not go there as it was quite late.
*Will post pics later this evening.

**NOTE: Instead of this route I mentioned above, you can go further down on NH209, cross the narrow cauvery bridge, and the road then curves to right. Here, there is a big tree on the left, and one can turn left. This leads to couple of old temples and then to a Dargah/Mosque from where you can see other side of Gagana Chukki. Further ahead, you reach Bara Chukki where there are steps that lead to the base. On an earlier trip we took this route and there were villagers stopping vehicles to collect money as entry fee and were giving temple parking receipts :Frustrati

Planning to visit Shivasamudra coming Tuesday.. Any updates if water is really good enough to make us feel worthy of visit ? :-)

A friend who visited recently said there is lot of water being released and hence the water fall is full and worth a visit. I have not been there personally, so do not know the accuracy of the information.

As per news paper reports it is a good time to visit. If things go as per plan will be visiting over the weekend.

News paper article.

I was there last weekend around downstream locations. The flow of water at Muthathi/Bheemeshwari was ferocious. That means surely the falls should be full.

I just posted this yesterday.

Went to Shivanasamudra yesterday. Water flow is great, so much that coracle rides and getting down to foot of the falls are blocked. Took NH 209 all way. There is a new hotel just outside Kanakpura opened called Kitchen, good food and clean restrooms.

I had combined this trip with Gopalswamy betta trip, roads to the top of the hills are broken though.

Where is the hotel Kitchen? Can you please give some pointers?

This is few KM's before Kanakpura, I am not able to find the location in Google maps. However I guess it is around here.

This is the hotel, it comes on right side while driving towards Kanakpura.
