Initially it used to be good. But now it's very bad. Yesterday they took one plus hours for idli and dosas.

Yes, good part is they have some nice parking, open space and clean toilets.

Today I got a over-speeding challan near Penukonda (AP)

What time was this Arun ? Was it an interceptor vehicle with a speed gun ? Asking since I've never seen such vehicles beyond the Karnataka border on this route.

It was a 'pure' Interceptor vehicle.

Time was anywhere between 0730-0800.

Just read the details on the Twin City meet thread, 0730 is early indeed! BTW, what's the speed limit on this stretch ? Quite sure there must have been a speed limit sign somewhere nearby, that's usually what the cops will use when handing out the challan.

80 was the limit 'here' while on return I saw few places where it was 100 :).

Arun was "caught" for doing 103 KMPH! This is the first time I have ever come across an interceptor vehicle ready for job at 0730 in the morning.

103 is within the accepted tolerance of the equipment. I had the opportunity to observe and interact with a Kerala Police interceptor crew near the KL-TN border on the NH544. They were quite professional and cordial. The limit was 90kmph and they start tracking only when the speed crossed 95 consistently. To their knowledge, most of the speed limit enforcers use the same equipment and this is the accepted tolerance

Not tolerant where Arun's car was doing 103 KMPH because before this the speed limit signage (as rest of us noticed after he called) was 80 KMPH.

If the limit here was 100, he would have probably been let off.

Usually if you see a speed limit sign that mentions a drop in speed from.earlier limit (say you see a 100 limit sign and after a while see a sign for 80 or even 50 sometimes!) these are typically the places where you can expect speed checks. Usually these guys will not be checking on the 100 zone and will position themselves at the places where the limits are lower.

Yes, its 80, here is the sign board few meters before the spot,

I was the 9th car to be caught at that time and after me it was another 4-5 cars. It is a straight stretch and everyone will be doing 90-100 easily.

The penalty was 435/- and you get the receipt as message in your mobile.

Forget the drop part, even if there is a speed limit sign and an arrow straight stretch, you know someone is waiting for you.

The 100 KMPH sign I saw was on return and nowhere near to where this trap.

When you argue with the cops about what and where is the speed limit, they know how easy it is for them to point out at that sign :).

The ORR of Bangalore that I take from work to home has at least 4 interceptors together from both sides within 12 kms span and exactly on super straight stretches and just there is a 60KMPH sign.

This one where Arun was caught, despite of him calling us, I noticed that I was more than 90 without any throttle input when I saw the cops and further reduced it to 80 and passed them and pulled over like others did to wait for him to join us back.

Started from Blr on Friday around 5.30AM, reached Hyd (Mehidipatnam) around 12.30PM) inclusive of breaks.
- Took a breakfast break @ blue moon for 40 min. Inspite of the reviews we ended up going to Blue moon due to lack of better places. But have set the expectation with the guys there that we are in a hurry, it did help swift service, but food is very average. Blr-Hyd stretch needs good restaurants. Not many otherwise. There is one called 'Hotel Sunsine' just before Anantapur, saw multiple vehicles stopping there. However by the time we realized there is a restaurant there, have crossed 1/2 km, did not go back.
- Tolls each side - Rs 680 (Around 8 tolls)
- Very good roads. Did not encounter any traffic police, however in our return, there is a speed governor/gun (the one we see in city junctions with cameras, not sure what it is called) around Kurnool outskirts
- Returned to blr on Sunday, took us 7.45 hrs inclusive of breaks, fatal accident after crossing blr airport flyovers slowed us down, outer ring road - some road works going on and there were 2 deviations further slowed us.
- Even in return, not many options for food. Non-veggies can try Hotel Dolphins (around 40+ kms from Anantpur towards Blr on the left), vegetarians will suffer.

There are plenty of Interceptors now a days, especially between Anantpur and Shamshabad (on both sides of the road).A lot many snazzy Ecosport Highway Patrols also now a days on this route.

And a lot many Scorpio Getaways as well to add to the competition. Saw more these than Ecosports during the drive last weekend.

I am going to Hyderabad from Bangalore next Sunday. Planning to start at 4 AM and reach Hyderabad in the afternoon.

Can you recommend some good breakfast joints on the way, considering our start time?

We are going for a three day trip to Hyderabad for sight seeing, mainly Ramoji film city which will take one day. Any recommendations for the other two days? Thanks
