I agree. My 7 hour up/down trips didn't result in astronomical FE figures. The combined cycle (around 90% highway, 10% in-city in Blr over my trip - AC on 100% of the time) was a little over 13.5 km/l for my BQ. With in-city mileage between 9.6 and 10.7 km/l I would imagine highway FE to be not much more than 14 km/l in a typical "Hyd-Blr in 7 hours" routine.

Today when I asked Google Maps for directions to bypass Hyderabad (coming from Bangalore) and hit NH7 near Medchal, this is what it showed me!! Is this ORR operational?

AFAIK, it is correct till Miyapur Cross after which the ORR goes via Bowenpally.

Kumar Sir - Google Earth clearly shows under-construction bits of this ring road (highlighted below). The road running in b/w the two boxes is NH-7. Given that the imagery date is 27th May 2010, just wanted to check if anyone from HYD is aware of the latest status on this road.

The ORR is still not complete.Go via Bowenpally,that is the best option

cool_dube, the ORR isn't complete yet. That route definitely exists and is motorable and is earmarked for ORR expansion. A lot of traffic in fact uses the Bachupally-Bolaram route from Miyapur to go to Medchal. I've also seen the crossing on the Jeedimetla - Qutbullapur road (road leading to Prakruti Nivas from Narsapur 'X' roads in Balanagar) and the place where it meets the NH7 near Kompally.

However you'll be driving through some thick traffic between Gachibowli ORR and Miyapur (Bachupally road crossing) depending on the time of day. Nothing earth-shatteringly bad, though.

I suggest you take the same route but not the ORR towards medchal end(its not operational yet), check the map below. Do not go towards Bowenpally

Bangalore to Hyderabad (Airport to Airport) - Covered in 5 hrs & 55 mins (With two stops 15 mins & 25 mins respectively)

Came back from Hyderabad yesterday, and road is fine as noted earlier.
Any one driving today, please take note that there is an AP bandh planned, and heard some road blocks from news channels.
Check the "agitation conditions" before you drive today.

Planning to go to hyderabad. Will be starting from blr on Monday morning @ 5am.
Can any one please suggest place to have breakfast? Lunch hopefully will be in hyderabad!

Chikaballapur will be ideal or you have Ghar Dhaba after that.In case a delayed breakfast then you have to go into Ananthpur town.

Look for Kamat Upachar onto your left after Chikballapur bypass.You will not miss it.This is the same GHAR dhaba that Gajadonga has referred to.After that there really are no options available on the highway.

Drove to Banglore and back in 2 days.Road conditions excellent.Four lane complete from Shamshabad to Devanahalli except for Anathpur bypass where one side of the flyover is open to traffic.The best bypass seems to me is Penukonda.The road is just straight.
Caution at Chikaballapur bypass huge speedbreaker not visible in the night towards Devanahalli side.
