I did a trip to Aurangabad during last weekend. Took a day off and left on Friday morning. I came back to Pune on Sunday night.

Route was straightforward while going towards Aurangabad. Pune - Ahmednagar(crossed city)- Aurangabad (Ellora caves)

Good roads throughout. There is a speed interceptor Ertiga once we reach closer to Ahmednagar after crossing the smile stone restaurant. Be careful.
Special mention of the NH 52 Bypass. It’s a beauty. Beautiful roads with minimal traffic. However, be attentive of jaywalkers. One lady came from nowhere and stood in bang centre of road! To use this road, don’t forget to take a left from Golwadi chowk on Ahmednagar- Aurangabad road.

I planned to visit Jaykavadi dam in Paithan during my return leg. It’s a beautiful dam built on Godavari river. Accordingly, proceeded as Aurangabad- Paithan- Ahmednagar- Pune.

Road condition between Aurangabad and Paithan is average with small bad patches in between.
However, worse road is between Paithan and Ahmednagar. NH 61 is connected from Tisgaon. Road construction work is in progress and might become good in an year or so for Tisgaon- Ahmednagar stretch. No such work can be seen for Paithan- Shevgaon- Tisgaon section. It’s better to take a U turn and reach Ahmednagar via Aurangabad.

Has anyone taken the Mumbai Aurangabad Road lately? I believe it now passes through the newly opened Samruddhi expressway. Any thoughts /feedback on this route?

Yes you take the Nasik highway till Ghoti, right from there till Bhavir (sign boards will tell you about the Express way) and exit at Aurangabad. I have take the Expressway all the way till Nagpur twice. From Thane till Aurangabad is approx 6 hours with a small break at Igatpuri.

Thank you. I reached Aurangabad in flat 5.40 hours from Mumbai with a 30 min pit stop in between. Took the right turn after Ghoti (Google maps also shows the same route) and covered the expressway stretch at 120 kmph. The expressway was completely empty and so I put my Tucson on cruise mode at 119 kmph.

As a side note, planning to write to Hyundai to ask them to disable their speed indicator sound as the car moves past 120kmph. While this is a good safety feature, becomes quite annoying on such expressways where the average speed limit is higher.
