HI everyone,

has anyone recently traveled between Ahmadabad and Indore. How is the road condition and which is the best route. I have traveled Indore to Baroda on this route once in 2005 and then road was in good condition except few bad stretches.

Regards

From Ahmedabad we have taken Ahmedabad - Dakor - Godhra - Dahod - Dhar - Indore route for years. The last time I did stretch was couple of years back and the roads were good except some stretches on Dhar - Indore sector. You should try covering the Dahod - Dhar section during the day due to the infamous Jhabua ghat. In the nights the Police convoy use to go with a group of cars. I am not sure if that is still the case.

You can take the Ahmedabad - Vadodara expressway but take the Dakor exit. Or you can take Ahmedabad - Mahemdabad - Dakor route as well.

Please clarify if the Jhabua section is unsafe for travel with family.

It is safe in daytime ( i think so) but the problem is the road is mostly isolated with hardly any vehicular traffic. one hardly find human movement. From Dahod to Dhar it took me 5 hours. Dhar to indore another 2 hours

The fastest route is Express way, Dhakor exit, Godhra, Dahod, Indore. Start early around 6 AM and you'd be fine in the day time crossing, things are not as bad as it used to be in Jhabua. We did it in 2008. Last week someone I know come by car, the route is OK.

My logs of MP trip through Indore for you to know the distance and timings etc., look at 11-6-2008 logs also for return journey details.

Wishing you a fast and safe journey.

Hi,
I am in the process of checking if the Halol - Alirajpur - Dhamnod route is better. I intend to drive to Indore from Vadodara next week. Will report if I get any feedback; unless someone here knows....

Just spoke to someone who does Indore - Ahmadabad on a weekly basis. Night travelling on the below route is an absolute no-no since it's quite deserted in stretches and dacoit prone.

Ahmadabad - Baroda - Halol - Chhota Udaipur - Alirajpur - Kukshi - Barwani - Thikri - Khalghat - Indore.

The road throughout is good, Toll is at 3 points Baroda - Halol - Khalghat

After Thikri ask for Indore 4 lane road / Khalghat - Indore toll road.

His average travel time is 6.5 hours.

But be also wary that it is narrow road. It is teh best option till the time widening of NH59 is completed.

In that case, NH 59 seems the better way to go from Nadiad to Dhar- Mandu, ptovided one leaves early enough.

Yep !! Thats the route I was talking of. Its probabaly longer by 50-60 odd kms but a better road until the NH-59 opens up. I finally got a feedback that this road is motorable by someone who did it about 4 weeks ago. So this is a second assurance...

Cheers,

I did the Nadiad - Dhar stretch by NH59 last week. The road is okay till the Gujarat border. There is a paved road at least on one side while the other two lanes are being laid. On entering MP the welcome is with a road having huge potholes. In small bits it is navigable. But large stretches there is no effort to maintain a road till the road is complete. This state continues for about a hundred km when 40 km short of Dhar patches of bad road interspersed with good road begin to appear. Again the Dhar to Mandu road till the Mandu turn off is bad. If one wants to access Mandu from the Dhamnod side, it is best to come via a small road that joins the Brahmapuri road near Hotel Palash on NH3. It is also a shorter route connecting Mandu with Maheshwar. I had no choice but to use NH59 considering I had to go to Dhar first.

Further there are no eating places worth stopping for after Godhra. There is a MP Tourism motel at Jhabua but I decided not to wait there. The day time travel was okay, not so deserted and one did not sense any danger from highway robbery. After 9 pm vehicles are still sent with police escort. The Jhabua ghat has a police station in it too.

Thanks for that update. Never expected NH 59 it to be so bad, my friend who came in a Innnova Taxi last time said it was OK:Shockked:

How much time did it take for you to go from Godhra to Dhar to Indore and which car? Just to get an idea of the average timings required, so I can inform prospective drivers what to expect.

I know once you cross the border, eating place options are non existent, Indore the best option then.

We travelled in a Ford Fusion - one of the few cars equipped to handle the road due to its high ground clearance and chunky tyres. The distance is about 290 km from Nadiad to Dhar, of which the first 150 or so are in Gujarat. I left Nadiad at 0730 and had a halt at Godhra for breakfast at about 9.15. Started the onward journey after 45 minutes (we took some time to find a place). Dahod is about 70 km from Godhra and the road was alright till there. Dahod has a bypass too. We reached Dhar at 3 pm non stop from Godhra and after a 45 minute break here left for Mandu on another bad road - till we branched off to the Mandu road. We had no lunch and after breakfast at Godhra the next halt for food was Mandu. I was not going to Indore.

These are two examples of the road. There are worse stretches as for the first ten km after crossing NH59 from Gujarat to the MP side. The car speed goes down to 10kph.

Cheers,

Back from Indore and Bhopal last week.

Baroda - Indore via above route took me 7 hrs - all breaks included. Left Baroda at 8 am and reached Indore at 3 pm. Excellent driving condition except a 5 km stretch between Bodeli and Jetpur in Gujarat where heavy trucks plying sand have damaged the road. Sparse traffic means one can maintain above 70 speeds on single lane SH.

Did Bhopal to Baroda with couple of breaks in about 10 hrs - 600 kms. Left Bhopal at 9.30 am to reach Baroda at 7.30 pm.
