The last i know Chorla Ghat has turned into a myth. Long long ago it was a route now it is not.

Where do you want to get to? Through Chorla Ghat or the Ghat itself is the destination?

Enter Belgaum off NH4 and take the panjim route NH4A. Ask for peeranwadi which is 10 kms from belgaum, leave NH4A in peeranwadi & take right.

Ah... that's sad. The distance to Goa from Belgaum through this route is the shortest.

There is a long series of giant pot-holes, no road. Go only if you have a 4WD and a liking for cross-country rallying! I met a guy who did this stretch from Goa to belgaum in his new Fiesta. Took him 4 hours for 20 km, and he was reduced to a gibbering idiot by the end (car's okay though).

I keep repeating this on this forum, The shortest route from Belgaum to Panjim is through Tilari ghat.

Its not different to Chorla.

Ok how many kilometers is it? And how much is Chorla Ghat. Are you talking closest to the border or closest distance to a major city - Mapusa/Panaji/Ponda/Margao?

Where is this Tilari Ghat? I have been very intrigued by this route. someone before has mentioned going from Belgaum to panaji without touching Londa.

Lets start from Mapusa.

Hope you know where Tivim is? It is close to Mapusa. Or get on NH 17 from Mapusa and ask for route to Tivim. Its the rightmost lans at the big intersection just after coming out from Mapusa on NH17.

Or to get directions ask the route to Tivim Railway Station.

At one point you have to take a left to get to the railway station but continue going straight.

Pass Assnora, and keep going straight. There is only one route leading to this Ghat. Its VERY VERY SCENIC. Awesome landscape. Still not touched by tourism.

There is Tilari Nagar once you get to the Tilari hill. Its like a small hill station with low clouds all throughtout the year. The residents here are mostly employees from the Tillari hydoelectric project.

Don't miss a visit to the Dam. Its beautiful too.

Once you pass all this and the beautiful ghat - awesome road for taking a bike.

Once you get to the top you will be stopped by the Karnataka Police at the small checkpost. Here again they will ask for entry fee. Pay that and you will then join the sawantwadi road coming from Amboli towards Belgaum.

Belgaum to Tillari is 60 kms approx. Tillari to Mapusa is another 50-55 odd kms.

Total distance is equal to 120 odd i think. Chorla route i guess is almost the same maybe 5-10 kms more. But with Chorla non existent and the present route to Tillari suspect i am not sure Tillari is an alternative.

Sometime back they used to close this road on Karanataka side after 1800 due to a lot of bottlelegging. Not sure whether it is open 24 hours now.

Shahir would probably know.

Thanks spitfire, looks like this is a good place to go just for the scenic beauty and maybe a picnic at the dam site. Anyone been thru this route lately, to comment about the road conditions?
