Re: NH25 Kanpur-Lucknow in a mess

As er today faily Noise (aka jagran) the ROB bypass has been opened to ALL TRAFFIC. Let is see how long it lasts, with all the 30-40t trucks.

No news about the culvert though.

Re: NH25 Kanpur-Lucknow in a mess

After the completion of the Ganga barrage I have given up on the old route via Jajmau. I go on the zoo road, and then follow directions. Knocks out about 25km and 45 minutes from the journey. Unless you are on the Cantt side of Kanpur this is the much better route to go to Lucknow. I have advised the same to those coming from the Delhi side and proceeding to Lucknow. Use this route.

Thanks for update sir. Since I have crossed this route several times a word of caution here. Its becoming unsafe to travel on this road after dark (Although its unsafe everywhere in UP). Secondly there is a crossing also in this route which when closed results in mild jam from both sides but still as you said this is also my preferred route over jajmau.

Re: NH25 Kanpur-Lucknow in a mess

Dear Sgiitk / Sparkguy

Am trying to be certain about the roads / routes in this region as we are planning a trip from Mumbai to Bhutan in mid March. Hope you get the time to apprise me about the situation.

Need some help and feedback about these routes urgently so that we are absolutely certain about the safety and ease of drive in and out of these cities / states. This will be our first drive through this region and my friend is a bit sceptical about driving through since election results would be out by then.

Kindly let us know which route / highway we should take to avoid any unwarranted (unpleasant) surprises!

Our Route is:
1) Mumbai to Bhopal - 775 kms (13.3.17)
2) Bhopal to Kanpur - 582 kms (14.3.17)
3) Kanpur to Muzzafarpur - 624 kms (15.3.17)
4) Muzzafarpur to Siliguri / Phuntsholing (if we have time by our side) - 629 kms (16.3.17)

Hope to hear comments / views from experts and regular travelers on this route.

Thanks

@saildrive; Take a look at the somewhat longer section via Rajasthan to get the handle into UP. I hear the Bhopal to Kanpur is not so good. My Nephew regularly does Indore-Gwalior and prefers the Rajasthan route than the NH3 (or is it NH4, AB Road).

It will be better to take the Indore - Shivpuri - Jhansi route provided Mumbai - Indore is in good shape.

Jhansi - Kanpur - Lucknow - GKP bypass - Kushinagar is somewhat undulating due to heavy truck traffic but you can still maintain 100 kmph...

I did the Lucknow - GKP bypass - Kushinagar two days back.

The routes you can take are -
1. Mumbai - Indore - Bhopal - Sagar - Chhatarpur - Mahoba - Kanpur - Lucknow - Gorakhpur - Kushinagar - Muzaffarpur
2. Mumbai - Indore - Beaora - Guna - Shivpuri - Jhansi - Kanpur - Lucknow - Gorakhpur - Kushinagar - Muzaffarpur
3. Mumbai - Surat - Ahmedabad - Udaipur - Chittorgarh - Kota - Shivpuri - Jhansi - Kanpur - Lucknow - Gorakhpur - Kushinagar - Muzaffarpur

The third route is longest but the best. I have been on this road upto Gorakhpur and the entire stretch is a great driving pleasure. But it will be longer by about a good 300 kms.
Mumbai to Indore is good but Indore - Shivpuri stretch is single lane with broken roads and lots and lots and lots of trucks. Then the Shivpuri - Gorakhpur stretch is good with four lanes.
I am told Indore - Bhopal section is also good but from Bhopal to Kanpur will be single lane with few bad patches in MP.
Suggest you take the Mumbai - Gujarat - Rajasthan route to UP. But whatever route you take please do give your feedback asap for the benefit of others.
Thanks and Best wishes.

Re: NH25 Kanpur-Lucknow in a mess

How is the condition of the road from Lucknow to Kanpur? I will be visiting Kanpur next week and need to drive down from Lucknow to Kanpur from the Lucknow airport.

Thinking of taking a self-drive car just to explore more. It is advisable to take a cab instead? Will be driving down in the morning and return by evening same day.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hello Skyliner,

We have traveled on this route in Mid-May while returning from Uttarakhand to Panna.
This is NH25 with good surface and you would be able to hold decent speeds mostly even though this is a very busy road.
We didn't enter Kanpur as we had to move towards Ghatampur-Hamirpur for our destination.

Cheers,
Trojan

Thanks, Trojan.

I have dropped the idea of a self-drive car as I may have to work en-route. Does anyone know a decent taxi service company in Lucknow? Hotel taxis are way too expensive.
