Pune - Kashid : Route Queries

Has anyone been to Kashid / Alibaug side recently from Pune? Which is preferred route - via Tamhini or Expressway-Pen?

Tamhini more scenic. Road conditions not as good as expressway - pen though.

Tamhini-roha without doubt. Much more scenic and fun.

the route via the expressway and Pen is much faster though.

If you go via Tamhini, you wouldn't be able to keep up speeds of more than 60 kmph. Expressway - Pen route will be very fast and less stressful.

If time is a constraint you can take the E-Way but Tamhini is much more scenic.

Or you can have the best of both worlds, go by the Tamhini route when the drive is much more relaxed and come back from your trip via Pen/Expressway to reach home quicker.

Sounds like a plan.

Thanks.

Regarding route via Tamhini, just after you cross Paud until the base of Tamhini you will get lots of potholed stretches. Also, the rains are long gone, it won't be too much of a scenic route now.

Depends on when you plan your trip. after the rains (and during it) the tamhini route will have even worse roads. The E-way route is also going to be slightly scenic any time now, and is faster too.

Do you plan to go to murud janjira too , since its not much far, and kashid is a good base for a day's return trip to janjira?

Yes I do. Been to that fort quite a few years back. So worth visiting again.

On the route part - a colleague who has been to Alibaug last weekend, suggested e-way only as Tamhini road is in bad shape and his kids had a tough time with motion sickness on that road. So e-way it is for me also!

Hi All

Just came back from Kashid yesterday after 2 great days along the beachside. Route via e-way is best - very smooth and less traffic. Expect some delay in Pen town and near Vadkhal Naka otherwise this is a nice road. Took me 4 hours incl. a short stop for food to reach there.

Pune to Kashid route

Planning to drive to Kashid tomorrow morning. I am wondering if it will be best to take the Expressway all the way to Panvel and then turn back to Kashid through Alibag, or take the Khopoli-Pen route. There is also the Mulshi-Kolad route.

Any thoughts?

I have an Endeavour so road condition is not that big a deal.

re: Pune - Kashid : Route Queries

I went through Expressway-Pen-Alibag, and except for the small stretch of NH17 which was extremely crowded and slow and rough, the drive was smooth, and is my recommended route into North Konkan.

On the way back, we left from Murud, and I was thinking Indapur-Kolad-Mulshi might be a good route, but my MMI navigator suggested Roha-Khopoli, and turns out, it was a great choice, and saved me at least an hour, given how bad the Mulshi road is.

re: Pune - Kashid : Route Queries

Any updates on how good (or how bad) is the Tamhini route ? I am planning a drive down to Alibaug this weekend and I prefer going via Tamhini but if it is in a bad shape then better take the expressway - Pen route.

re: Pune - Kashid : Route Queries

Hello Friends

Driving to Kashid from Kalyan(Mumbai). The shortest route is Kalyan-Panvel-Pen-Poynad-Alibaug- Kashid (124kms, driving time 3.48hrs) However, general opinion says the road conditions are pretty bad.

Alternate route is Kalyan to Khopoli(Express way) - Roha(Khopoli-Pali road)- Kashid(168kms, driving time 3.46hrs)

Time and distance courtesy Google maps.

How is the road and traffic condition on the second route? Driving with family. Please comment.

Regards
Ashok
