Google maps is right. Bangalore - Chitradurga - Shimoga - Sagara - Jog is the right option. Roads are good and the scenery too. You need not go via Davanagere.

I think there's only one KSTDC hotel in Jog- not sure how good it is. Usually it's bad. Nearest option is Sagara, where we get decent options of lodging and boarding.

Thanks Autospeaker. Let me know if you have any updates on Jog falls - Honavar - Karwar - Colva stretch?
G-Maps shows 6 hours, but wanted to check on road conditions, and budget delays in my planning if it's bad.

Jog doesnt have a lot of water right now as Linganamakki dam is at ~30% capacity and not a lot of water outflow. You might be better off visiting Magod falls near yellapur. Magod pic below was taken June 3rd week and shared by someone on WA.

Unless you have somewhere to visit on Honnavar-Karwar stretch, I prefer doing Talaguppa-Siddapura-Sirsi-Yellapura-Ankola. Talaguppa-Sirsi-Yellapura is traffic free when compared to National Horror 17.

Jog isn't worth it unless there is news that the Lingamakki is going to be opened. Magod (that procrj mentioned) and Unchalli falls are off this route. Yana is also accessible from Sirsi. Infact Arvalem falls in Sanquelim, Goa is much more enjoyable during monsoons than Jog any day.

Thanks a lot for the great suggestions procrj & narayans80.
Jog falls - i'm planning to visit and try my luck as it's in my to-do list for long. But from there, will take the suggested route via Yellapura to Goa, if it has better roads. Also, I can plan for Magod & Unchalli falls that are on the way.
Will also plan for Arvalem falls in Sanquelim, Goa during my stay there (4 days).

When I drove 2-3 years back, it was in fantastic shape and very little traffic. Recent reports in the last 1 year also say the route is very good.

I hear even Devimane Ghat (that connects Sirsi to Mirjan) is good, in case you decide to visit Yana.

30% seems too less? I think its near full. Just that its not overflowing and hence they have not released water. But yes, Magod is a beautiful waterfall at a fantastic location. Even Sathodi would be worth checking out.

I follow the same link all the time. Quite surprised to see FRL to current level ratio does not follow volume. RL/FRL is 1779/1819 much higher than 35%. What am I missing?
Looks like depth is not direct metric to capacity tracking. (Maybe because of Volume spread)

You are right. The expanse greatly increases (spreads out) at higher levels. Thats how the hills are shaped too, inversely.

Magod & Unchalli as of last weekend. Apparently the last ~25km to Magod is a mess thanks to the rains.

Re: Bangalore to Jog Falls - Route, experiences

Going to Jog tomorrow. Is the route over Chitradurga still the best ?

I usually go over Channarayapatna to Arasikere to go to Shimoga.

Hearing that Linganamakki dam gates are being open today. Has anybody visited Jog today? If yes, please post your photos

Yes, they were opened around noon time. No info about Jog but here's a video of the dam.

A Prajavani (front page, Dt: 14-08-2018) picture of Jog as on Monday.

Re: Bangalore to Jog Falls - Route, experiences

Dear all,

We intend visiting Sigandur Temple next weekend. Planning to visit Jog falls also on our return back to BLR. GMaps show a route via Tumari-Kattinakaru-Muppane-Kargal which is almost the same distance as compared to the route via Sagar-Talaguppa.

In the first route - we will not have to wait for the ferry crossing thereby save time probably.

Wanted to know if anyone travelled recently on the first route and how are the road conditions ? Any recommendations and suggestions welcome please.
