Hi Kiran - I will be taking this route this weekend. Would you have any good hotel recommendations for lunch between Hirekerur and Jog falls? I don't seem to find many options online.

Re: Bangalore to Jog Falls - Route, experiences

Friends,

We are 4 families traveling by Train to Sagara to visit Jog falls and nearby places coming weekend (13th to 15th). We have 3 days in hand and planning to hire a Tempo Traveller.
Requesting suggestions to see important places around Sagara that can be done in those 3 days without too hectic. Also any good places for veg food.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi.. there are actually not many places for lunch. You may find decent/ordinary restaurants near Soraba bus stand (as it appeared quite big for the size of the town - not sure). In fact, we normally have packed lunch or finish off in Davangere before getting of the NH to this road.

You have many places to visit near Sagara. The very first being the world famous Jog Falls, you can plan to visit Ikkeri, Keladi, Varada moola, Varadahalli. If time permits you can also visit Sigandur Chowdeshwari Temple.

For Veg food you have couple of options in Sagara the one is a mess just outside railway station where you get homely malnad style veg meals. In case you need anything apart from meals the options are limited Hotel Varadashree and Karanth Veg are the two options which are almost 2 Kms away from Railway Station. If you need an option near railway station Hotel Shree Brahmi is the only good option which is near private bus stand is the option you have.

Planning to Visit Jog Falls from Chennai. Google Maps shows this route.
Kindly provide an update on this route from Ranebennur to JogFalls.

I just visited Jog Falls this weekend. I took the exact same road you showed (Google Maps direct road). That is more or less OK. Some sections are rough and some are bad, but mostly still it is good and I faced no serious road issues anywhere. So yes, that is a good road.

However, while returning, I took a slightly different (and about just a few km longer road), and that was even better. Basically I went to Sagara and then from Sagara drove to Ranebennur. That is a slight improvisation in terms of road surface compared to the Google Maps road above. But anyways, the difference is minor and both these roads are totally viable routes to reach Jog.

This is route I am recommending (which is a slight alteration to your road): https://goo.gl/maps/wRT2Tk3xwpjcJE866

However, please note that the water flow at Jog Falls is quite the minimum at this time of the year. If you are keen on seeing the beauty of the falls and driving all the way there just for that, then this is NOT the right time of the year. But if you just want to enjoy the drive and explore the forests in that area, then that is a totally fine plan too.

If I may suggest (and if you have time), try the Jog - Bhatkal road. It passes thru the reserve forest with minimal/no traffic and has some amazing views and greenery. From Bhatkal, you can travel north to Honnavar via Murdeshwar.
Planning to go to Jog Falls through this route in mid-December. Has anyone travelled through this recently? How are the route conditions now?

I assume you are planning to go to Jog from Bangalore. If that is the case, I did this a week ago. The route recommended and followed was the same as mentioned in the earlier post; except instead of Shiralakoppa - Soraba - Siddapura - Jog, this time it was Shiralakoppa - Ulavi - Sagar - Jog. In the 20 odd Kms of Shiralakoppa - Ulavi road, 6 kms are real bad with lot of potholes. And 16 kms of Ulavi lake - Sagar road, nearly 2 kms are bad. Rest of the road is good to excellent.
Watch out for road 'cutting' (dug up across the road for laying cables, pipes, etc) not covered properly from Kod, all along until Sagar. PM me if you require more details.

It is the reverse route. We will be staying in Udupi for a few days and then the plan is to go to Jog falls and drive back to Bangalore. Gmaps was showing this route and I wanted to know the route conditions. What is the best route if we need to do Udupi-Jog Falls-Shimoga-Bangalore?

From Udupi, there are a few routes which you can take (Udupi - Agumbe - Thirthahalli - Shivamogga - Jog Falls, etc). However, the route I mentioned in the earlier post (Bhatkal - Jog falls) is one the most scenic routes amongst those. As not many heavy vehicles use that road (and restricted inside the protected forest area), I believe it wouldn't be non motorable.

I have gone through Bhatkal - Jog falls route last month and it is perfectly fine. On the way, I visited Bheemashwara gudi too, which is a must visit in my opinion. Road gets way too narrow at some places and one needs to be mindful about the opposite side vehicles there. But overall traffic is negligible in this route.

Re: Bangalore to Jog Falls - Route, experiences

Hi All

This is my first post since my membership was approved. Have been following TBHP literally for everything from car purchase decisions, investments, work life balance, travelogues , health and fitness . Hope to be part of the TBHP meet up drives someday with the Chief. Been following Dr.AD, Graaja, Projcrj,Chetan_Rao, JK sir, Thirugata, Leoshashi and many others in this forum.

Based on experiences from TBHPians, we have drawn up a driving holiday from Bangalore in the fourth week of December.

1. Day 1 : Bangalore to Sharavathi JLR, stay at JLR, visit Jog the next morning as per the itinerary
2. Day 2: To Kolavara Heritage HS, Thirthahalli from Sharavathi JLR
3. Day 3 : Bean Aroma HS Chickmagalur on Day 3 before returning to Bangalore on 25th Dec , Dr.AD

We want to keep the trip unharried and not pack in a whole lot of places and feel drained out.
Wanted to visit Jog(Day2) ,Sringeri Sharadambe temple,Thirthahalli, Kavishaila mainly during the circuit. Kindly suggest any other major attractions in this region.

Need help with advice on the road conditions - the best route to be taken for this trip, good stop overs along the way for refreshments \ clean toilets, good coco fuel outlets. We are 4 adults , 2 kids in a XL6 2022 AT.

Thanks

Would suggest Kalasa and Horanadu temples, these are famous temples in the region along with Sringeri. (Kalasa temple will be closed during afternoon, so check before make the plan).
You can also consider Kavaledurga fort. This is bit of a climb (steps), o if the kids are old enough walk up then this might suit. This place gives awesome view of the surroundings from the top especially after the monsoon now.

Regarding road condition, I havent been in this side of the state recently, but generally just after monsoon road condition in western ghats will not be great so caution while driving is warranted and try to avoid shortcuts if google suggests as the less popular routes will be last to be fixed in this region.

Many thanks Thirugata
I guess the route suggested in earlier threads as well by Dr.AD & Kiran after Ranebennur is the Shiralakoppa - Ulavi - Sagara - Jog one

Any suggested coco around Sagara, Thirthahalli , Sringeri and also good stopovers in this section with clean toilets.

Thanks
