Bangalore to Bhopal (Oct'10) - Which route ?

I happened to travel by train from NGP - BHPAL as I knew about the bad condition of roads there.

Can you update (on Road conditions) from your trip via Pune ?

So looks like we do not have first-hand info on how repair work is progressing on NH69 [Nagpur - Bhopal section].

Neo - did you at least do Bangalore - Nagpur by road? If yes, how is the 4-laning on NH7 coming up?

From Nagpur onwards, the MH-AP border area continues to be a mess, but Adilabad and Nirmal bypasses are open. Road widening is still incomplete in the Adilabad-Nirmal-Nizamabad sector.

@ Cool_dube - I don't see or even heard about any repair work going in between Betul to Bhopal stretch. Nagpur to Betul is okay road.

For my next trip in Dec, I am thinking of another route for NGP - BPL.
i.e. NGP - Chindwara - Piparia - Bareli - Bhopal. (Pachmarhi route)

How is this route ? Too long ? Any update on road condition ?

I know that NGP - Chindwara road is good.

You are correct. One of my relatives drove Nagpur - Bhopal 2 days back and it is status-quo :(

In all probability, I would be driving to Bhopal (from Bangalore) towards the end of December.

The Bhopal-Pachmarhi route is very good currently (update less than 30 days old).
However, I have no idea about the road from Pipariya to Chindwara.

Few queries:

a. Does Nagpur have a bypass? If yes, is it worth taking?

b. Good stay options in Nagpur (preferably on the outskirts)

c. Has anyone tried the Nagpur - Chhindwara - Pipariya - Hoshangabad - Bhopal route? It is longer by ~60 kms as compared to the Betul route.

Nagpur has a god ring road. Watch out for it after crossing the airport when you are coming from south. Signages will point to Amaravati (to your left) and Bhandara (t your right). You can take either to get to the north end. Signages are good. The Ring Road intersects all the highways.

Chhindwara-Pipariya-Bareli-Bhopal route instead of via Hoshnagabad. No idea about condition of Chindwara-Pipariya, but rest is good.

Lots of hotels to choose from. If in expensive mood, opposite the airport is the Hotel Pride (part of the chain which has hotels in Pune, Ahmedabad) and a couple of other airport hotels.

Ok guys... my plans are taking some shape now. Here is the tentative itinerary:

Day 1 - Leaving BLR at leisure since overnight stay is planned at HYD. One of my old-time buddies has left me no option but to stay at his place. Good part is, his place is bang on the Gachibowli - Miyanpur road

Day 2: Leaving HYD as early as possible in the day. I am still in double-minds whether to take the Bowenpalli route OR Medak Road to get out of HYD. I plan to do HYD - NGP - BPL in one shot, provided I am able to leave HYD fairly early and be in Nagpur latest by 2 PM. Given that the road conditions b/w Betul and Hoshangabad are still quite bad (althought some patch work is in progress), I would want to avoid night-driving as much as possible. In case my arrival at NGP is delayed, possibly due to bad roads around AP/MH border, I will stay back at NGP for the night and start bright and early next day for BPL.

Any comments/feedback/pointers on the above are most welcome.

I am planning to leave on 30th June 2011.

I am planning a road trip from Bangalore to Kota, Rajasthan.

Following are the possible option.
1. Bangalore -> {Hospet -> Bijapur -> Sholapur } (via NH13) -> { Aurangabad -> Dhule} (via NH 211) -> Indore (via NH3) -> Kota
2. Bangalore -> Hyderabad -> Nagpur -> Indore or Bhopal -> Kota
3. Bangalore -> Pune -> Nashik -> Malegaon -> Dhule -> Indore (via NH3) -> Kota

I would like to know which one is the best in terms of road conditions and distance. In case there are other better option please let me know. I prefer #1 but
heard NH13 from Hospet to Sholapur is not in good condition. Also road in Maharashtra are not that great.

No reason why you should even consider the medak road. Its easy to get out of Hyd via Bowenpally and the highway there on is fabulous

Route 1 is definitely ruled out.NH13 is forever in a state of potholes!

Route 2 would be a good option
