Thanks. I've already seen good reviews of the roads in Bijapur-Solapur stretch. So I'll definitely take the Samruddhi Mahamarg route.

Thanks! I checked out a few decent places in Aurangabad and it looks like they look like they're worth getting into the city.

I understand NH48 is best route for Kolhapur -> Pune in-spite of deviations. This seems like the only option.
Yes. And it isn't too bad. The service roads are tarred ones. You'll have to time your entry to Kolhapur side, given the sugarcane harvest is on and you'll be slowed down by those tractor trailers.

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

I did a solo Bangalore to Pune and back this week. Started from JP Nagar 7th phase, Bangalore on Sunday 25th November at 4:30AM and reached Hinjewadi at 5PM. Stuck to NH48. Deviations were not a big concern, may be it was just the timing. Service roads were generally in good condition. There was heavy traffic headed back to Pune post elections and lost some time in this traffic. Breakfast, Lunch and fuel were the only breaks.

On return started from Hinjewadi, Pune on Thursday 28th November at 4:30AM. And reached JP Nagar 7th Phase, Bangalore at 4:30PM. Again, breakfast, lunch and fuel were the only stops.

Its a stress free drive, except while entering Pune or Bangalore. Was able to stay cruise control for decent intervals.

These cars are made to be economical and sporty , I’m doing “ Aaru Padai Veedu “ - Lord Muruga ( Karthick ) , six houses in Tamilnadu in my X3 , avg mileage is 17.6 kmpl and on a single tank it can do 1050 kms when driven at a stretch , fantastic Engg .

Well in some stretches it drops to 50/60 kmph in the KA side even when the road conditions remain unchanged.
I have never had any issues with speed cameras on the KA stretch, though there are several fixed speed cameras and usually a couple of interceptors for company.
My experience on the MH stretch has been very different. There the interceptors tend to challan you for even minor infractions (5-10 kmph above speed limit). I am now careful even while overtaking large vehicles, especially between Kolhapur and Karad.

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

I am planning a Bangalore to Mumbai trip by road. This time I am planning to take the Bangalore->Davangere->Hospet->Vijayapura (overnight halt) ->Solapur-Pune->Mumbai route.

I had gone by the usual NH48 route through Belagavi-Hubli last year and faced a very frustrating experience between Belagavi and Karad with the numerous diversions hence planning to use the alternate route.

Any recommendations if this is ok or should I stick to the traditional NH48 route?

I have Kia Sonet IMT petrol, will be driving Solo with a possibility of mom (70+) also travelling on the return

You have planned a correct route, please avoid NH48 for now. The work is never ending so is the frustration if you choose this route. I leaned that hard way, after i choose this route from Pune to Goa (via Belagavi).

If taking this route then staying at Pune makes sense so that you can move early the next day cutting through the city when traffic is minimal. By your planning you will reach Pune in peak traffic the second day and reaching NH48 will be a horrendous task.

Alternatively if driving solo and open to exploring new route, you can try reaching NH 48 from NH50 via Vijaypura-Zalki-Mangalwedha-Pandharpur- Shirwal-Pune route. Till Zalki its NH50 then there are single laned roads till Pandharpur and then 4 laned till Shirwal till you touch NH48 to Pune. This route has fewer fuel and eateries so have to take that into account.

For return I would still suggest the NH48 as its still faster than the other alternatives. Yes, the patch between Kognoli and Hattargi is an issue but after that its smooth sailing till Bangalore.

Hi

Is there a separate thread for people planning Bengaluru - Pune in an EV focussing mainly on reliable charging options.

The Solapur route seems to be the preferred option here, but I think the EV charging infra is better on the older route.

With an EV, it is better to stick to Belgaum Kolhapur Satara route. There are many reliable chargers at regular intervals.
Which EV do you drive?

Its better to stick to the default Kolhapur Belgaum stretch. Post Solapur, the highway goes through a bird sanctuary for some time. You will find very less food and charging options.

Thanks for the insight.

First section I will start with 100%, would not want to go below 20% before looking for a charger.
Subsequently the drive will be from 80% to 20%. Ideally I would need chargers at 240 - 280 kms distances.

If I take the Solapur route, I would either need to leave the highway for Hospet chargers, or would have to rely on the one at Ilkal , checked via the plugshare app.

Will stick to the default NH48 for this trip.

I drove to Pune last year from Bangalore in my ZS. I charged at Jio BP station at Ranebennur and did one more charge at KA-MH border. This was sufficient to reach Pune.
Now there are far more chargers and with Currv's range, you can easily reach Pune with 2 charging stops.

Same here. I charged for 15 minutes in Pakshaala (T Begur) while having breakfast, then in Jio-BP (Ranebennur) and Viraj Junction (KA-MH border) to Pune. I also drive ZS ev

Re: Bangalore - Pune - Mumbai : Route updates & Eateries

I have a trip coming up next week from Mumbai > B'lore and am wondering which routing to take, as there are couple of options now.

Could I do this journey in one single day, if I leave at around 4AM? Earlier, I used to do this(B'lore <> Belgaum <> Mumbai) in about 16 hours and now am not sure seeing many posts about road works between Satara and Belgaum.

Please advise.
