daredeviljpr, as Khoj describes, here are pictures to enter the ring road from NE 1 ( as instructed by hvkumar ). Be aware of these boards roughly 24 kms from the Reliance Petrol station. Hope these are clear..

roamingrao,

These are the most valuable pics of the NE1! Thank you from all of us for nailing the exit.

One more request : can you please provide close-ups of the last two pics, in order for us to read the boards showing the destinations and distances?

Regards, drive safe

The first left (before the underpass) will read Sakhej/Rajkot.

The second left (after the underpass) - which you will take - will read Udaipur/Himmatnagar.

Both of them lead to the Sardar Patel Ring Road, the first to go west, the second to go north east.

If you miss this left turn, please be warned that you will reach the Ahmedabad city end of the NE1 within 1 km nd then you will have to take the congested Ahmedabad bypass (not to be confused with the Sardar Patel Ring Road), which is messy, goes via Naroda, and can take you upto 1 hour what will take you less than 15 minutes on the Ring Road.

anilisanil, hvk, roamingrao,

Thank you for clarifying it and making it idiot-proof. I don't see anyone taking a wrong turn, now.

Let me also list all the pumps that khoj has mentioned in a previous post, in order of travel northwards :

A. Bharuch : BPCL - COCO after crossing Bharuch town, on the NH8 (opp. a Gurdwara)

B. Approaching Udaipur, after Shamlaji, around Bichhiwara/Ratanpur :

IOL, HP, BPCL & IBP (now IOL) pumps - take your pick

C. Udaipur : BPCL - MOR & sons, on the left 4 kms after entering Udaipur

D. After Udaipur on the NH79 to Chittorgarh : BPCL -COCO ( after the Chittorgarh toll plaza)

E. Dudu : BPCL - COCO ( after the Kishangarh toll plaza)

Very informative, very useful

>>>
akhilesh,

Will ping you when I start -its still a good seven weeks away!

Regards, drive safe

But, don't force it. I can understand pride but safety come first. It is a great route with some classic roads and am sure you'll enjoy driving.
I missed the 1000 club by 90 kms. I travelled 910kms the first day (Pune-Udaipur) and reached Udaipur by 9 PM. It was late and I have relatives at Udaipur so there was no point in going further. Safety prevailed over pride

I safely completed my trip Pune-Jaipur-Pune as planned. I started from Pune on Nov 4 at 5:45AM and reached Udaipur at 9:00 PM same day. It was total drive of 910Kms. The total rest time was 1.5hrs for the entire duration which was mostly for re-fuelling and nature breaks.
Rested at Udaipur for the night, left Udaipur on Nov 5, at 9:45AM and reached Jaipur at 4:30PM, in time for Diwali. The average moving speed for the entire journey was 60Km/h. I maintained a speed between 90-110Km/h for most of the stretch except for populated and traffic prone areas.

On my return trip started from Jaipur on Nov 19 at 9:15AM and reached Himmatnagar at 6:30PM same day. Stayed at Hotel Landmark for the night. Started from Himmatnagar on Nov 20 at 6:30AM and reached Pune at 6:30PM same day. The average moving speed for the return trip was 72Km/h. I maintained a speed between 90-110Km/h for most of the stretch except for populated and traffic prone areas. For a few seconds touched the max speed of 155Km/h on Baroda Ahmedabad Exp way.

I was lucky not to find any traffic at Ghorbunder toll and Narmada bridge during the journey. I saw the traffic jam on the Narmada bridge which was for 2-3 kms while returning to Pune, but it was for the journey towards Ahmedabad. For the traffic coming from Ahmedabad the second bridge was open for light vehicles so I did not get stuck in the traffic.

Thanks to all of you who helped me plan my journey with your valuable inputs.
Special thanks to "Khoj", "roamingrao" and "hvkumar". The detailed writeup about the route, traffic conditions, hotel details for stay, the document posted with pictoral representation of the SP Ring road with landmarks by "khoj" was of great help and I kept referring to this during my entire trip. The pictures posted by "roamingrao" of the Ahmedabad exit to SP ring road on Baroda-Ahmd Exp way were perfect and thanks to these pictures I did not miss the exit saving me both time and energy. The log uploaded by "hvkumar" in one of his posts was also referred during the entire journey and kept me on track in terms of distance and time.

KedarJ, for onward journey you can easily make it to Ahmedabad or Udaipur. There are no good stay options on Surat bypass.

Agra-Indore is a totally devastated route, in very bad condition, only the foolhardy should dare to venture.

You can check out the Thane-DElhi route profile in this log:

Hi,

Last year, we chose to drive down when we were shifting from Pune to Gurgaon and since we wanted it to be a sight-seeing road trip, the route we followed was Pune-Baroda-Ahmedabad-Udaipur-Ajmer-Gurgaon.

The condition of the road between Pune and Baroda is amazing. The highway between Baroda and Ahmedabad is a "superway", meaning there are restrictions on the type of vehicles allowed. It's a scenic 4-lane tar highway.
A'bad to Udaipur is also nice. Till Ajmer the road hols up good.

However, as you approach Jaipur, I'm afraid the condition worsens. In many places, some layer of tar has come of. There is heavy truck and bus traffic. Your speed from Pune-Ajmer can be ~100km/hr and from there it will drastically drop down.

Do not worry about food; there are tons of restaurants.

Before you start, please ensure you are outside Mumbai by 6.30 coz after that, the traffic in Mumabi itself will delay you.

I would suggest you do it this way (personal experience) :
- Pune to Baroda ~550km 10hrs (overnight halt)
- Baroda to Udaipur ~380km 7hrs (overnight halt)
- Udaipur to Jaipur ~250km

You will enjoy this journey! We did this journey in a Zen and loved every part of it.

Let me know if you want additional details.

One thing that you got it wrong is that

Udaipur to Jaipur is = 420kms and not 250kms

Another thing I would suggest is that after Udaipur take NH76 till Chittaur and then take NH79 to Kishangarh. Avoid NH8 between Udaipur and Kishangarh, it a slower route.
