Yes. Peralam Bypass is in full swing. The Bypass starts just before the railway gate from the thiruvarur side and ROB is under construction. It ends just after the Peralam Mariamman temple on the kollumangudi side. the road work is in full swing and should be ready in 3 months time as per my cousin who lives in peralam.

Thank you! I remember seeing the part constructed ROB over the track even before this SH widening project began, maybe it finally saw the light of the day and is merged as a bypass. Believe there must have been some land acquisition issue originally and hence they widened the road inside the town and now finally getting the bypass going. Good on both fronts.

We are planning to travel from Bangalore to Tiruvarur temple coming weekend. Google suggests two routes:
1. Salem Musiri Trichy Thanjavur Tiruvarur
2. Krishnagiri Tiruvannamalai Setthiathope Needamangalam Tiruvarur.

Please suggest best route depending on road conditions, will be travelling in a Honda City with two toddlers.

Also does anyone have a good review of a decent hotel stay in or around Tiruvarur town? Thanks as always for your suggestions!

As I would do and generally suggest and in order to make the travel interesting, take one route for onward and another for the return. Decide on which route to take depending on the time of departure.

In this case both route or good and there is one alternative route via Vridachalam I.e via Salem Attur Veppur.

I advise you to stay in Thanjavur and in case you need to stay in Thiruvarur take the Lakshmi Mahal. I have stayed there and the place is decent. It is attached to a marriage hall though.

You can look up to Bangalore-Kumbakonam thread for more specific details about the route than this one as this is for Chennai to Kumbakonam thread.

Anyhow. to answer your question, you can very well take Thiruvannamalai route, but beware that there are not many good stops beyond Krishnagiri until you reach Ulundurpet.

If you need more stops, then you can take Bangalore-Salem-Veppur Koot Road, Vridhachalam-Kumbakonam-Tiruvarur.

For stay, there are not great options in Tiruvaruru to be honest, but decent ones are

These are state highways and goes through 2 towns - Thiruchitrambalam and Villianur.

One would feel the going slow after panchavatee, but one would make good time actually. But again, tomorrow is May 1st, beginning of summer vacation, put one day leave and get 4 days scheme applies and so I would believe all the roads to be chaotic.

Did a one day trip to Sirkali on 1st May. Left by 5.45 am and reached by 10 .15 am with no stops. The traffic was a bit high and there was a holdup before Madurantakam due diversions and road work.

Just before the right turn to villianaur , GMAP showed that going through Pondy was faster by 20 mins and decided to go through Pondy and joined the Cuddalore bypass via Bahour road (which is about 19 km from JIPMER).

While returning followed GMAP for the route through Villianaur but got rerouted multiple times and ultimately joined back just before JIPMER. Return journey took 5hr 30 mins with a 30 minute break at Only Coffee , thanks to traffic from Chengalpet

Hotel Selvies is a decent option, not many choice in Tiruvarur. If you need choice, better to stay in Mayiladuthurai or Thanjavur.

Yea. @venkatesh, even Mayiladuthurai is not good for stay. No good hotels.
Kumbakonam or Tanjore is where we get decent hotels for stay.
