With your specs given aboev, a Bolero suits fine. But I donot know how your wifey will feel about this monster (regarding looks). As far as the driveability is concerned, nothing to worry. My friend has done the whole of north india tour (upto Leh) in this vehicle from Bangy and they are planning to go far east next month in the same Bolero itself and what I heard from them is, the performance and other things are quite decent.

Just keep in mind the Bolero engine is not a CRDi engine.

So you lose out on all the goodies the new age diesels have to offer. Why don't you go for Ford Fusion ?

exactly, why not a brand new gypsy king? it will meet all your requirements as mentioned. only flip side is that it drinks petrol, but then it will cost 2 lacs less than the other options and you get bulletptroof reliability with excellent A**.

Hi Bent_gate,
You can look at the following options :
Bolero
Scorpio M2di with bolero engine
or Sumo victa di.
All of these are capable vehicles .
The scorpio m2di costing roughly 6.40 would be ideal.

If only Fiat Adventure was available, I would have suggested it whole heartedly.

It is available. Only made to order. The delivery will take around 4 months. If he is ready to wait. Last month when I was at Manipal motors, the sales guy informed me this.

Are you guys serious?
2500kms/month translates to 240lts of Petrol. At Delhi price that comes to around 10800Rs Fuel.
comparable diesel mileage will translate to 170lts of diesel, again at Delhi price you get, 5100
So you save 5000 a month by getting a diesel.
5000/month means EMI of almost 300,000rs.
i.e. a 8L diesel car will have monthly cost similar to a 6 lakh petrol, assuming that the diesel takes in 1000/month extra maintenance(worst case scenario)

So, are you suggesting he go for a 6L petrol car instead of a 8L diesel car

Is there an Innova version in the price range mentioned by the initiator? No other vehicle is a comfortable 7-seater.

You should also look at the Tavera - it is also a much better looking vehicle than the Innova (my opinion), and allegedly gives VERY good mileage.

Hey i guess most of us missed on the 7 seater requirement. I take back my comments on the marina. I guess the only option is the bolero o a used safari

Tavera and Bolero give you a lot of car for that buck. Bolero is decent too - reasonably quiet and comfortable inside. NOT the same for a gypsy! The only issue with a bolero is the horirbly agricultural sounding engine - but besides that, its a reasonably capable vehicle.

And heck, the PIKUP is the standard pickup truck across most of himachal/uttaranchal. If people in rural himalayas can do without 4wd, so would you, unless you seriously wanna mudplug

Do you know how much time does a Tavera take to reach 100 from standstill?

28 seconds You can read a full sized book in that time.

Or if i run ill reach 100 faster.

hahahaaaa

also tavera B1(6.2L,ex) is not a 4*4 and it does not come with a Power Steering. (that would be tough for your wife)

You can look at the tavera B2 which comes with a PS(but the GM website shows it doesnt come with PS), would cost around 7 Lakhs(ex), do check out the discounts on tavera.

raj.
