I think you should have a look at the i20- its set benchmark in the premium hatches!! Toyota Etios sedan would start production in Dec'10 so i dont think you can wait till then. If you are in a hurry choose go for the i20 if its a hatch and ANHC if you can live with the price tag.

We all know that Honda products are overpriced. But then, if they provide peace of mind, you would get that too with a second hand Civic. So at 10 lacs, you will get a 07 end or 08 start 1.8V Civic or a older version but an A/T. If you want to go for the honda, skip the ANHC and go for an 2nd hand A/T Civic

Since you're basically a sucker for the VW, wait for a bit. TD it and see if the engine is okay for you. Then it'll make more sense to discuss it properly. Meanwhile, TD all the other vehicles in the price range that you want, especially the i20 tat karanraheja has suggested.

VW had to do some cost cutting to keep the price competitive. The polo is OK, not that great. You have been used to Honda reliability for 8 years, so close your eyes, go for City V AT, it ticks all the boxes. Easy to drive, frugal, comfortable, reliable and decent on maintenance.

If the choice is only between ANHC and Polo, i would suggest for ANHC. But if you have a budget for ANHC, you have many more choices. So look out for others too.

I agree with sidindica. The India version of the Polo has been severely cheapened. The 1.2L, 3-cyl Polo with minimal equipment is at the level of the Indica/Swift, in the taxi-car segment. Unless VW announces a premium version of the car with a powerful engine, better interiors and international spec exterior detailing, there's no point considering the VW Polo.

Go for the ANHC, or the Linea TJet. The Linea might be a bit more fun to drive but also has the potential to give you more problems in the future (bad servicing, bits falling off, rust, etc).

How about the i20 automatic? Small enough for city use, and auto gearbox too.

ANHC comes with a better engine and Performance compared to the proposed engines in Polo but i am sure ANHC wont be able to match Ride, handling and solid build of the European Polo.

I Recommend ANHC Since if you have been a satisfied Honda customer Plus only ANHC comes with an Auto Transmission and it meets most of your requirements

I would have asked you to consider Polo if it came with better choice of engines.

Thanks everyone for suggestions. I was eagerly looking at some updates from the Auto Expo. Polo engine options were disappointing. And with no dates mentioned for 1.6L Petrol, its really frustrating. Had a TD of Fabia (to see how 3 cylinder sounds like). Not impressed.

I have decided to go for ANHC.

Another question? Since i missed out on the nice discounts during December, will there be any other discount period during March (Year ending) for ANHC? I can wait till May for the car.

Any of you know of any discounts offered during the March time frame? Please let me know. If there arent any, i can just go an buy it next month.

hrmanju1, my 2 cents. You said you are going to keep the car for 5 to 7 years. That case I would say go for the most reliable(peace of mind) and practical car. And you have a budget of 10L.
In my view, honda is a very good bet. It will server you well and good. We have a OHC vtec that is almost 130000 kms and 9 years. Still it requires nothing more than the regular maintenance.
I am not sure about polo. But it is a small car and shares its parts bin with skoda. So We can safely assume that the spare prices will be high and the longivity of the parts will be very less. And also it is not yet proved in the Indian market. Maybe you will appreciate the germanic build quality.

Did they offer discounts on ANHC other then the regular corporate discount? I don't think there will be additional discounts in March.

Price hike is inevitable and I do not think waiting till March will help.

Good luck with the new car.

I would say - go for ANHC (even though IMHO its overpriced) since you have the budget. Dont wait till march since The budget due in Feb may have a nasty surprise in store. wait till say the 20th of Jan and start the process so that salesmen eager to meet their targets by end of the month might give you better deals.

If you are open to other cars, I would suggest that you atleast TD the i20, fiesta and sx4 before taking a final decision. These companies in my opinion are more customer focused and will be willing to bend over a bit to accommodate any discounts etc.

For your budget and considering your driving conditions, ANHC suits your requirements. Polo the German hatchback is also good but they are all together from different segments.

We have to time test the VW After Sales and Service. Honda has served better till date.
