Busa my brother I've driven (not test driven) both the Optra and original, which is the Daewoo Nubira.

The base Optra here costs Dhs36,000 while the base Corolla costs about Dhs50,000. Thats a 40% premium, and guess which one outsells the other about 20 to 1 in terms of volumes...

additionally to the cab image corolla is not anywhere close to optra in fit and finish department.

while optra is a daewoo nubire nmo doubt, GM has worked extensively on this car.

toyota sells better because the corolla is a 20 year old model while optra debuted just a year ago.

and selecting a car doesnt go on different people voting but what you like and find better.Go ahead and buy a corolla if you think the 1 lakh discount is worth otherwise the optra fully loaded is the best thing in luxury in its price bracket.

i am driving a brand new optra 1.8 LT for a month now. has done 800 kms and it has given problems like not starting at all and stereo refusing to start and some small tit bits. its kinda weird since its a new car and behaves like this. only this i enjoy about the car is the sunroof. id go for the new corolla though.

Jesal are you having the NY edition! Maybe a problem with your particular car! Generally there have been no complains of such things with the Optra!

p.s Why dont you check out the Elantra CRDi 2 lac discount or any old Sonata s20 maybe left with hyundai which you can get dirt cheap

elantra crdi is good and so is the petrol(fetches more discounts)

BUt if you want to go for discounts like 1Lac and above its the Elantra which will score!

I failed to find any problem with the New Optra 1.6 Royale LT!

http://www.chevrolet.co.in/content_d...dex_optra.html

Plus the advert is very nice. This car looks good in black!

p.s Has anyone noticed the Optra 1.8LT and the Audi A6 have similar chrome on doors and similar door handles

The engine is good! Only doesnot have a good top end!

5 things you should be proud of your Optra according to the Car magazine:-
1. Sun Roof
2. Interiors
3. VGIS engine
4.Center Console
5.Chevrolet Badge

Our 1.6 is pretty good. Nice, refined car, with good fit and finish. The engine is smooth and great for driving in the city. It's not for performance freaks though.

We haven't had any issues with our car, so I would recommend it as a good buy.

Infact OD fails to find fault with the Optra 1.8 LT! In there new buyers list they state Against point as slightly thirsty engines which can be taken care of with a light foot! Otherwise according to OD The NEW Corolla cant match up to the ride of the Optra or the Elantra!

By the way Corolla getting repalcement when the CIVIC hits out shore!

no doubt about that.

HOnda and toyota play togather to kill their rivals. Until now they have not had a single product in the same segment. I hate such tactics.

What about the Camry and Accord! They are in same segment! Accord has killed the Camry!

Its soon going to be competition between toyota and honda with Civic-Corolla(no comp here since Civic is ahead any how any day), Fortuner-CRV, City-T1sedan!

they are in the same segment but they are not in competition to each other.

accord costs 14lacs and camry costs more than 18 plus lacs.

the competition you are talking about is inevitable. Its like saving self from the already present comeptition in the country and not fighting among self.

just imagine how much sales honda and toyota would have lost if the civic and corolla would have collided and crv and fortuner would have collided. Its like make way and then enter togather.

The V6 version of both the sedans cost approximately similarly! Not much of a difference!

Hellspawn - What have you decided?
