Great collection R.P.M. I like the LeMans racers. Where did you manage to get the McLaren F1? Nice lineup of jeeps too. I have the red Rubicon and the Willy's as well.

Hey Guys, just got myself a Maisto 1:18 McLaren F1 1993, bought it on souq.com (UAE's version of E-Bay), it has some scrathes, so I got it an extremely low price.

Now, I am planning on doing a paint job on the ride. I was wanting guidance with setting up the car and which paints to use on it. I have decided to sand it down this weekend, but am still not sure what paints to use, and yes, I also need to get myself an air compressor, any ideas on this.

Guess I will be having a very busy weekend. Looking forward to it though.

Cyrus, the model is quite old and during its day, it probably was the best quality you could find. So if you gauge it by today's standards, you are bound to find it lacking in some departments. I think I would be pretty pleased to find a model like that with opening features.

RPM, congratulations on finding the Mc. You need to strip down the paint completely before you attempt repainting it. You should remove the previous paint with some good paint stripper. Please identify the plastic parts from the metal before you attempt to strip anything off.

You would then need to wash off the model in clean water and remove those stubborn bits of paint with a toothbrush perhaps. Sand down the model, clean it again in water, let dry completely and apply 1-2 coats of primer. Never apply paint directly on to the metal. It will never stick. Coat the plastic parts with primer too. You are now ready to paint the car with 2-3 coats of the color of your choice. Remember to keep the coats thin and even. If its possible, bake the paint in a pre heated oven. This is pretty far fetched but it should help. Again no plastic parts near the oven. A clear coat would help to get that glossy showroom look. No need to say that all this should be done in a dust free enviroment.

All this sounds easier said than done. Been there and done that and I am poorer by two 1:32 cars.

R.P.M.
, you have a treasure trove of diecast. Admire those 1:43 Ferraris. cheers:
