deathwalkr, you seem to be on a roll. You'll need to take your cache of these exotic coins to an expert to figure out their origins.

That is a pretty unique error Is the back print superimposed on the front or the front print is ok?

Not sure about the value, but few thousands perhaps?

So I sent those pics to my father and asked him for help. He posted it in his Philately group (Yeah he's a stamp collector, first day covers specifically).

And as luck would have had it, some blessed soul managed to id them.

The first one:

1/2 Gani - Ala-Ud-Din-Ahmad Shah II

Sultanate of Bahmani (India-Islamic)

1435-1458

The Second One:

Now this is a find i think

Madurai Nayakas: Muthu Krishnappa Nayaka 1601-1609 AD

So pushing my luck, i have sent pics of four more unidentifiable coins to him and praying for the best

Re: Currency Notes & Coins from around the world

Here are the unknowns:

1) No clue. Thought it might be the fish motif from the Chola era but the reverse is just killing me.

2) I can visualize a God/Goddess or King/Queen but the reverse is gone for a toss.

3) Vague resemblance of a King or God standing. Maybe it could be this?
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces61857.html

4) Not even going to try searching for this

There is one more but both sides are neatly worn out and can't make out even one discernible feature. So didn't even bother taking pics.

Please check Pandiya era coins as Fish is generally associated with them. Google suggests they issued fish along with wild boar on the other side (may be to depict 'Varaha'?)

Give a try whether you can get any contacts in the museum or the university in your city as they may help you to identify them.

Re: Currency Notes & Coins from around the world

OK, so my father's contact came through again. Nothing beats experience and knowledge i guess

The list of coins mentioned above got mixed up and are not in correct order referencing the photos below.

As per the photos,

1 and 2 are Shivanganga Kingdom coins: 1730-1750 AD

3 I had the coin upside down. It's an elephant and as such it's Mysore Kingdom.

4 Malwa Sultanate coin 14th Century AD i reckon.

Now to find the exact denominations

Re: Currency Notes & Coins from around the world

After sitting on it for so many years, finally decided to catalogue my little coin collection.

Started using https://en.numista.com/ for this.

The dashboard looks like this after updating a few coins.

And you get to export the database onto excel with all details.

Re: Currency Notes & Coins from around the world

(Dear Mods- kindly delete / Move if not relevant to this thread - I could not find any other thread for posting the below information)

I had been to the O.G Varriar bakery earlier today, which is very near to the KA-02 RTO as I was hoping to collect my RC card after Hypothecation removal.
For some of my purchases at the Bakery, for which I paid in cash, they handed me over brand new shining Rs.20 coins. The first time I was seeing them, because I had not heard / read about the RBI releasing these new Rs. 20 Coins. The coins are almost similar to the Rs 5 coins and you have to be VERY careful when you are handing out Rs. 5.
The Rs. 20 and Rs. 50 notes are also very Similar in appearance.
Check out the coin comparison from the images below. the older one was at least easier to differentiate

Re: Currency Notes & Coins from around the world

So my father sends me a message today morning saying commemorative coin of Ramakrishna Math has been released/announced and wanted me to buy it for him.

Quick google shows a couple of links mentioning it but yet to see it listed on the mint sites.

Any help please?
