Team-BHP - A Guide: Eating out in Pune

Stayed at pune for 4 years on posting and moved out to guwahati recently. Miss the eating joints at Pune coz places at GHY close down at 10 PM :Frustrati

However, here's my ranking once again at this topic not in that order.

Four Points by Sheraton (awesome ambience and choice)

Northern Frontier (lovely kashmiri and non veg)

Shree Krishna (Viman nagar) only veg and very crowded

Flavours in Mariplex Mall

Herbs & Spice in KP lane 6 (great food but cramped)

Koyla in KP

BBQ Nation (do i need to say)

BON APETIT!!!

Polka Dots
Aundh
Mixed cuisine, primarily European with some Mexican and Indian choices.
Landed there on Pateti and they had awesome Lagan nu custard.

Ravioli was good, but quite heavy. IMHO, some of the dishes are to be shared like I found out with the Moussakas!
I recommend this place for anyone who would like to eat some well prepared food.

It is basically a shop at the corner of a building, so seating is limited and a bit cramped, but decent nevertheless for a meal.

I usually stick to places where I've been eating for years,
1) Nandu's: for stuffed paratha's (with yummy lasoon chutney),
2) JJ garden vada pav: ofcourse, for vada pav
3) Chinese room: again, for chinese food
4) Blue Diamond (coffee shop): for kheema pav, & the best strawberry cake i've tasted.
5) Dorabjee's: for mutton dhansak & chappati
6) Thousand Oaks: for mojito's & kebabs
7) Vohuman's: for bun maska, chai, & cheese omlet
8) Prem's: for conti breakfast
9) Misal pav: forgot the name of the place opp Balgandharva
10) Butter Chicken: Manali's (near wakdewadi)
11) Biryani: A1 briyani @ hinjewadi, very difficult to spot, small place, but you get the best hyderabadi dum biryani.
12) Mona Foods: chole bhatura
13) Marzorin: chicken sandwiches
14) Kayani bakery: mawa cake
15) Dorabjee's supermarket: chicken samosa's

Yep, the owner of Manali is our neighbor, they've shifted to somewhere at Katraj near Bharati Vidyapeeth. I just wanted to mention Manali cause that's the best butter chicken I've had, ever :o)

If he is your neighbour then could you please come up with exact details of the new location somewhere at Katraj, it will be great for foodies like us :D

Some more restaurants picked randomly
Polka Dots(Aundh). Convenient location, fairly VFM
Burger King, KP/Camp. Grouchy service, but whatay juicy beef burgers they serve! IMHO, better than the original chain!
Arthurs Theme/Malaka Spice (KP)- Recommended for a nice dinner date
Seasons (Aundh)- Mediocre, overpriced
Barbeque Nation (Wakad)- Go for the weekend lunch buffet,after skipping breakfast and preferably the previous nights dinner also.:)
Hidden Place, KP- convenient parking at KP during weekend. Fairly decent food and ambience (ground floor)
1000 Oaks, Camp- Okish food, not so bad retro playlist(Elton John, MLTR..)
MetroMix, Kothrud- Ambitious in concept, miserable in execution. Avoid!
Little Italy, University- Among the rare veg joints that I have visited. A bit $$$, but fairly good food.
Trikaya, Bavdhan- Awesome ambience, Good food, large serving sizes.
Toons, MG Road- Predictable rock play list(Maiden, Metallica, Linkin Park..). Grungy ambience. So-so food and often limited choices for beer
Doolally/Smokies/..They keep on changing the names! (Corinthians Club). A long long ride from most places in Pune. Their USP being that they are a micro brewery. Most beers are better than the awful lager beer that we get in restaurants. Good ambience, over priced food.

I'd been to Manohar (near Deenanath Hospital) recently. A limited hard core Marathi menu but awesome. It has one of the best sabudana Khichdi I've ever had. Small portions though.

Another paratha place that I've liked is Chaya in Pimpri. I haven't been there for years but the owner dished out great stuff. The peas paratha was absolutely fantastic. This place is near to the PCMC bus parking in Masulkar nagar.

Kareem's rocks!

How many ever times I go there to eat chicken, it always amazes me. Just yesterday I went there for lunch and the Tandoori Chicken was absolutely lip-smacking. Then we ordered Chicken Ishtew and it had a nice sour-sweet-spicy taste. All in all, Kareem's is highly recommended for non-veggies. However please note that, the prices are slightly on the higher side and the quantity is at best for 2.

Kareem's is in 2 locations I guess, Aundh and MG Road.

Recently me and my wife went for a candle lit dinner in "Earthen Oven" on occasion of her birthday. This is a restaurant in Fortune, Dasave in Lavasa.
Great chef prepared food. Mainly Punjabi. The food was very delicious. They have fixed menu of soup, starters, maincourse and desert. Though we could customize the dishes to our taste. For e.g they had Mutton Sheekh kabab however my wife doesnt like mutton hence we asked for Chicken kabab and they happily served.
The service was pretty quick. The ambience of the restaurant is good. The dishes were decorated beautifully. The portions of food served is huge. Easily 4 people could have eaten.
We completed the starters and maincourse and it was time for dessert. Though we were full we wanted to try the chef prepared "Nashila Jamun". The waiter brought the dish in front of us. Heated brandy on flame and poured it on the jamun. The flame of brandy was on jamun and it was looking really great. The flame extinguished in about 30 seconds and the taste of jamun was really good with brandy.
The dinner was totally awesome.

It is on the expensive side though. The bill was Rs. 1800.
But all and all worth the experience.
