Thanked: Once

I usually change the song or am playing with the audio, check my cell phone, look around if any cop is not trying to spot me for my loud exhaust, check if the car besided or behind is not too near my car, i hate a single scratch on my car. If i am in a hurry then i try and take out my frustration by reving very hard..
And if i am not with my gf then i try and look around for some eye refreshments !!

Switch off the engine if the timer shows anything more than 60secs.
Ogle at PYTs boldly when wife is not in the car. Ogle on the sly when she is there.
Look around at the cars, especially new models in the market or talk to my car-pool partner.

Experience the big nothingness

It's interesting that it is one time when I am not really listening to music eventhough fiddling with the stereo. It is the time when I take a break from everyting around me and blank out (when alone), I am more like on automatic mode. I guess, driving over the years in Mumbai traffic has made me such. I return to self only when I see people around me crawling ahead in anticipation of green light. If I don't then I would be rudely honked by the drivers behind me, asking to join the crawl... if only I can tell them that we gonna meet again at the next signal and they are gaining on me by racing to the next signal and then wait again!

- First step is to find the optimal lane and parking position for a quick get-away. So in general avoid lanes with heavy vehicles or autos/taxis; the latter will not start their engines till the light is green. And try to park in such a way that you can have a choice of lanes if you make a quick start; i.e., when possible, do not put your vehicle directly behind the guy in front, committing you to that lane (of course, I am against swaying from extreme left to extreme right just to gain a few yards).
-- Also if possible avoid parking directly behind heavily polluting vehicles, unless you enjoy inhaling exhaust gas. But in any case set A/C for recirculation rather than fresh air mode.
- Put on hand brake if reqd. and keep left hand on the hand brake, so that I will remember to disengage.
- Roll down windows and switch off engine if long wait is indicated (maybe longer than about 5 mins). At night, I always switch off headlights, but keep parking lights on, even for short waits.
- Sometimes open right door and get down to stretch my legs, since Santro can be taxing on the knee joints in long drives; but this is not always a safe thing to do.
- Watch the signal and be ready to take off quickly.

-1st thing i will check for how much time the signal is.. if it is more than 60 Seconds then switch off the engine.
-then check my mobile if any calls have come (coz with Music so loud.. nothing can be heard other than music)
-then look around the vehicals and nice people around and their mods (if any).

1. Watch out for guys who try to cut lanes and nudge their vehicles ahead of you
2. Read a magazine - always have several lying by my side for this purpose
3. Clean my spectacles, drink water and sometimes clean the dust in the dashboard

I am always wary of switching off the engine for a constnat fear that it may not restart - pushing the 2 tonne plus monster of the Mahindra Scorpio is no joke.

While waiting at the signal, just switch off the engine and wait.
one thing I observed, when ever i start my bike everyone around me starts their bikes too even if there is plenty of time to wait fot the signal to turn green, and again swtich off..others will follow the same..keep on repeating this sequence.

1. If < 60 sec take off foot from clutch and brake.
2. Deploy handbrakes ( necesscary in B'lore as max signals are on a slope ).
3. If > 60 sec switch of the engine.
4. Crib about the pathetic roads in B'lore.
5. Watchout for bikers trying to squeze their way out in front of me.
6. Change the fm station or track on my stereo.
